HELP!!!

I am on day 3 no cigs. I am already losing my mind and am really on edge.

I am snapping at my family and am now thinking of ways to dispose of bodies...

Seriously though. I bought an e-cig. It has done nothing for me. I am not getting "relief" from this awful bitchiness I have. I don't know how to get one I like. I don't even know of places that sell them aside from the ones at the local pharmacy...how do I find out more about options/good ones?

In the back of my head all I hear my IC's words. "Smoking can mask mood disorders".

I worry what it is masking for me. Will this bitchy feeling go away? Is it possible I am going to be replaced with a miserable bitch?

I cannot believe how much control I have given to these damn things and how pissy I am.

There are LOTS of better e-cigs available than the ones you find at convenience stores or pharmacies. Eranda has lots of good info. I will PM you with some of the stuff she shared with me. I've followed her suggestions and not been disappointed.

As for bitchiness - ask your Dr. for Wellbutrin. It was a lifesaver for me.

Congrats on making it three days!!!

I respect everyone who can quit.

I am not of the mindset to try right now. Pretty sure I could go all crazy if I did right now. And I'm already at the edge of crazy

I had to go on a flight some years ago. No smoking on the plane. OMG!!! I used the patch, ya NO help. Security and baggage pickup was taking forever and all I wanted was to get outside. Pretty sure I was marked as suspicious lol until I said I needed a smoke.

Moving has been great for me. We rent a house. No smoking in the house. I have to go outside and with my kids tearing apart cupboards or colouring the cats with marker when I step outside I don't get to smoke often lol

Also, our new Neighbours have a young daughter who will wait outside MY door for my kids to come outside I went out this morning and she wouldn't leave me alone (I have had little patience for MY kids let alone someone else's who won't take a breath between words...). Ya I know be nice.....but I just want one smoke in peace!

I tried that and it seemed to send me for a loop so bad I was better off of it.

Guess it didn't agree with my system.

Do you have a support group/person involved in your quitting you can vent to when you feel crabby?

My SO is quitting smoking and he said the same thing. He was actually worried I wouldn't love him anymore.

He was a pain in the butt those first few days (I made myself scarce), but 10 days later, his moods are stabilizing and he is easier to be around than when he had the constant cycle of craving. Think about when the pack runs out, any extended period around non-smokers, even just a few hours, long family dinners, road trip, flying, he might remember otherwise, but he wasn't all sunshine and rainbows between cigs.

first of all - CONGRATS, CONGRATS, CONGRATS!!

Have you gotten the patch yet? If not, PLEASE do. This will totally help take the edge off.

I am "regular cig" free since June 17. I've been using the patch and e-cigs here and there (probably should have been consistent with the patch, but oh well) and it helps.

The mood thing, yes, I get concerned, because I sometimes feel my emotions VERY strongly now and its scary. BUT..I know that its temporary and there are other things that can help if need be i.e. therapy, anti-depressants, support groups for smoking cessation...in CA there is a smoker's hotline that will call you with weekly "check ins".

YOU CAN DO THIS!!

edited to add: there is also a website called quitnet.com that is an online support forum.

Thanks everyone!

I am biting my nails....hoping to get through this.

I like the idea of the patch too, but I didn't think I could use a patch and an e-cig? I thought it would be nicotine overload...no?

I am definitely going to have to ask the doc for something, my mood is horrible

Yeah, don't use the e-cig and patch at the same time. My method is probably not consistent. But I have not smoked a "real" cig, so that's a plus!

I'm rooting for ya! PM me if you need support.

There are 2 different kinds of "fake" cigs (three if you count candy ones... )

It sounds like you have the kind that is just electronic - as in non-vapor. I have one of those and hated it. It did not help me quit in the least.

So a few people I know - totally independent of each other - have been saying they've had success with the vapor cigs. So last Friday I made the investment and I'm here to tell ya - I'm on day 6 and don't even miss my cigs at all - and I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED my cigs. Not crabby, nothing because it gives you nicotine, just none of the other chemicals and tar and all that nasty stuff. The flavor I got is very, very similar to the taste of my former cigs. You also get the hand-to-mouth habit part covered.

The best part - you can decrease your nicotine until you are just vaping flavors with no nicotine (over time - they don't recommend you do that in drastic drops because of the bitchiness...because your body is used to the nicotine and it's like caffeine - you don't get it, your body knows it.

The good quality vapor cigs are a little pricy for a kit (mine was $119.00 and then I bought a carrying case too so it was like $147.00 total). Now with Edgefield cigs at $23.00/carton here where I live, I figure the vapor cig will pay for itself in about 6 weeks.

Good luck!

Oh, and don't buy them at a gas station, drug store, etc. Go to an actual vapor store - they are popping up all over the place and they are very knowledgeable and helpful. If you can, go during the day on a weekday because these places are hopping...very busy. (But they will still be very helpful even if they are.)

My cough has decreased. My voice used to give out on me all the time and that has decreased. I am breathing better all around and sleeping better as well.

Again, good luck!

I buy my e-cigs at 7-11 and don't have a problem with them, except they have nicotine. But I think they are great. Cost $10 and it has lasted me over a month. I use them very infrequently, but might look into the "non" nicotine kind.

PM me and I will give you all the info you need to know.

I quit smoking on May 5th, it's been over 3 months. The first week was a little rough in a few spots (twice that I can think of), even WITH the e-cigs, but I gutted it out and here I am three months later and I haven't smoked even one drag of a tobacco cig.

I now find my e-cig to be as satisfying as I ever found smoking.

Anyone who wants some more info on e-cigs, shoot me a PM and I will help however I can.

With the vapor cig, I didn't even have a craving for a real one from day 1. (Okay it's only been a week but I find it satisfies my cravings just fine.) Last Friday when I bought it, when I left the vapor store, I thought I'd finish my open pack of cigs and then start the vapor cig when I had finished it. I lit one regular cig on the way home and threw it out the window about 3/4 of the way through it. Haven't had an actual cig since and haven't missed it at all. The vapor really does the trick for me. The regular "electronic" cigs w/o refillable juice and not much vapor just didn't satisfy the cravings like the vapor one I have now does.

Ok so I am going to get online and start researching the vapor cigs I guess.

By the time I figure it out I would think my cravings would be over lol

Thanks for your help everyone....
