Divorce/Separation :
The car seat saga continues...

Oh my. XWH is what some of us might refer to as "cray cray." And also miserly.

Some of you may recall that my XWH and I have shared custody... of a car seat. Yes, that's right. DS #1's car seat switches back and forth between cars because XWH is too cheap to buy another one for his car. But, it's certainly not a hill to die on, so I just remind DS #1 to take it with him and to return it.

We originally shared two car seats until XWH pouted and hoped that I'd buy a new one, which I did. Only I kept it in my car-- he thought I'd be providing him with the new one, but instead, he found himself with the used one. Poor, sad XWH.

He has, apparently, bought a new car seat (the world must be coming to an end), so I asked him where the old car seat went. Since it's never been in an accident, I said I'd be willing to clean the seat up and see if a local consignment shop might take it. Now, a used car seat is not worth much of anything, and chances are, the shops might not be interested due to safety reasons. If they aren't, I might throw it in a garage sale for a few bucks. No matter what happens, whether it goes out to the trash or fetches maybe five dollars, it's not worth much.

So, XWH tells me that he does have the old car seat, and he'd be happy to give it back if we could we split the profits on it when I sell it.

Uh... sure. I'll get that 2.50 to you right away. Ebenezer has sunk to a new low in what he regards as doing his due diligence on our former marital property. I'll have to be careful if I sell anything else from our marriage that I took with me; I'm sure he'll also expect half of the pittance that I might get from the hand-me-downs and cheapies that he allowed me to take while he kept all the antique furniture!

Sure split the profits. The seat originally cost what? And you are selling it for what? I am not seeing any profit. You get to keep it all. Or just put a cleaning charge and then deduct what you get from that to see if there is anything to split.

The car seat was originally 40.00 back in 2009. Perhaps XWH, surrounded like he is by his fancy, antique furniture, is operating under the assumption that car seats actually appreciate in value. He probably thinks that it's worth 120.00 today.

On top of a cleaning charge, I'm also going to charge him a stupidity tax. When all is said and done, I think he'll owe me about 100.00.

Years back we had a consulting business. XWH used to joke about adding on an "aggravation fee" to a difficult client's bill. I'm thinking it would certainly be relevant in this case!

UPDATE: He has informed me that he's going to "sell it on [his] own."

Well, without the original packaging, the instructions, and the additional cup holder that currently lives with me, I hope that you and your 2.00 live happily ever after, XWH. Have fun trying to sell that in the want ads for some absurd price that you'll never get!

Lol! Tell him you want YOUR half. Heck you might not be able to sell it. Believe it or not, car seats have an expiration date 5 years post manufacture.

I think...therefore, I'm single.
