Thanks OSXgirl! I will definitely give those suggestions a try this evening.
I'm in no rush to download new apps (and can wait another day til the update on the update), but my son is all aflutter that he can't get this app or that to go along with his Grand Theft Auto 5 game that he plays with friends.

Ahhh..... so the longer this goes on, the less money Apple gets, huh?
Hurry, fix it.... we don't want them to go bankrupt!

LOL! I think Apple going bankrupt is the LEAST of my list of things to worry about.

Gaby - I took a quick look, and I found a couple of people on one of the Apple forums that sounded like they were having the same problem. Unfortunately, no one had any answers yet.
My recommendation would be what you already plan on doing - a reset. Just make sure you do a reset, and not just a power down. The reset is when you hold down both the power and home buttons, and keep them held down until you see the Apple logo.
After that, if you are still having problems, go into Settings, scroll down to find "iTunes and App Store", and select it.
At that point, you should see your Apple ID. Make sure it's correct. Try signing out (if an account is already signed in) and then signing back in. If all else fails, you should be able to do the "iForgot" from there. If something really screwy has happened, you may end up needing to do that, which will make you put in a new password.
If that doesn't fix it, I'm not sure what else to try. Maybe signing into the store from a desktop/laptop, and then try the iPhone again.
If that doesn't work... you may want to try reloading the OS. If you really need to do it before the update comes out tomorrow, Google DFU mode and find the Apple knowledgebase article that will tell you how to use DFU mode to force a reload of the OS
Of course, if you can wait... just download the update that's supposed to be out tomorrow. If there are any bugs related to the password, there may be a fix in the update.
Since it was easy to try (and I didnt need to be at my computer at home), I tried logging out of iTune/Store in my phone settings. Then I logged back in.
Worked like a charm.

I have always read your name as oxsgirl. And I had no idea why you had such a fondness for the ox. But I wasn't going to question it.

I downloaded it yesterday because my 13 year old was FREAKING OUT about it... 'MOM you haaaaave to dl it NOOOOW! It is SOOOO coool!!'
sigh.
So I did. I hate change. All the icons are in obnoxious bright cartoonish colors. The background for messaging is white - it hurts my eyes (and makes it impossible to text during a meeting where the room is dark because someone is giving a presentation) and it's all obvious you are on your phone because it's shining like a beacon in the darkness.
I hate change!
I want to fix this background issue but don't know how. Oh, and last night I kept missing calls because after the download it changed my ringer and I thought it was my kid's phone ringing!! I had no clue it was my phone making those weird sounds.

Well, I finally did it and I like it.
Totally love the flashlight feature when you swipe up on the first screen.
And totally love how it categorized all my pix.
