I started this new job on Sept 1st. 3 of us started on the same day to become first line supervisors and we had 3 weeks of office training.

Last week they assigned us to our jobs in very different area's. My job was at the end of a furniture line which includes my inspecting the furniture. (there was no training for this)

I have been told that I have to walk around watching people work and inspecting ALL THE TIME !! I worked 65 hours last week and was walking the floor ALL the time. My boss decided to "correct" me in front of my employees and one of the men was laughing at this. As a supervisor I was told that I am not allowed to do this to my employees, it must be done in a nice way in a room away from others.

I talked to the other two people I was hired with and they did not work more than 45 hours and they are allowed to sit at their desks and do the paperwork that is required. They also told me that they heard my boss is the hard one and that is why so many supervisors quit.

I need the income. Does anyone have any suggestions ?

I have been in this situation where I have started a new job and been miserable.

I knew from the first few weeks I hated it there.

I lasted 3 months and quit.

If you are miserable why stay and make yourself sick?

Start looking for a new job.

Kville,

I've been a supervisor and manager for a very long time (mostly military but now private).

I recommend you ask to discuss expectations from your current supervisor. Find out what he/she wants. If that doesn't match what you expect then discuss them. You should not be expected to work that much and in those conditions if it is not the company norm.

In my experience, managers respect those who bring up problems and try to work them out more than those who are 'Yes, people'.

Good luck with the new job.

Yes, when I go in tomorrow I will take the time to talk to my manager. I think what I was told vs. what is happening is something we need to discuss.

I have been in a similar situation and even though it was hard for me I scheduled time to meet with my boss to discuss and things got better. If that approach does not work for you then find something else. It is miserable to stay in a job that is just not working out for you! Best of luck.
