like the threat of scorpions climbing into my shoes wasn't bad enough right!?

One of my TX friends recently stepped on a scorpion, but got away without a sting, somehow. She's constantly dealing with them!

If you live in the South or SW, there are a couple of rules to follow to keep you safe:

1) NEVER reach where you can't see (like under a bush or something).

2) ALWAYS shake your bedding and shoes.

The Denver area has PSAs on TV telling viewers how to avoid mountain lion attacks. Just sayin'....

A scorpion dropped off of the ceiling onto my H while we were asleep in our last house and stung him on the hand a few times. I wasn't sleepy after that.

We used to find them in that house a lot. Haven't found any in this house.

Also saw a big black snake crawl up into the ceiling on the front porch of the old house. Lost a little sleep over that too.

This is more like what you'd find in AZ. I found this little beauty (a tiger rattlesnake)on South Mtn. in Phoenix.

This one was found in the White Tank Mountains on a night hike; it's a Blue Phase Speckled Rattlesnake:

It is posts like this where I am glad I live in Nova Scotia. We don't have venomous snakes.we have little itty bitty garder snakes...who stick their tounge out at you and slither away in fear. We dont' have scorpions and most of our spiders are pretty tame.

The biggiest ick I have are June bugs, or Bears and wolves on my running trail.

I guess I will have to take the snow in exchange for less creepy crawlies.

I heard on NPR the other day that in the Dakotas rattlers are evolving to have no rattle. Still venomous, though.

Oh great. They will still kill you, but now you get no warning. Probably just as well.
