Anyone else working on their Christmas shopping lists? I’m ploughing through mine. Mostly I now have to buy for the two little GD and a couple of friends. Am I the only OCD early bird on SI? I shop early because I can’t stand shopping in crowds—the waiting in line (and subsequent sweating ion my winter coat) drives me bonkers.

We usually get started after Halloween. There's some stuff we pick up as we find it over the summer, but mostly it's after Halloween that our thoughts turn to gifts.

That said, for the last couple of years we've done most of our shopping online. Between sites like Etsy or Shapeways, we can get a lot of unique items for our friends and family, and the convenience of the bigger sites like Amazon makes the rest much easier.

Glad to hear I'm not alone!

Actually, TBH, I'm almost done all my shopping.

I started a little past Easter and bought an item or 2 every month. I find it's easier to do it that way and take advantage of periodic sales than waiting till November (or December) and going full throttle.

Next week, I start decorating the house.

I love Christmas so much. I've been pinning ideas like crazy. And yes, been working on my gift lists and have purchased a few small things. My Amazon cart has several items in it. Of course one thing my dd asked for very specifically seems to not actually exist. Hate that!

My son will freak over the VIP Toronto Maple Leafs home game tickets. I need to buy a puck to make the wrapped package heavy so he doesn't guess something like this. I think I will paint it with the words "The puck stops here!"

I am about two thirds finished. We're going away December 13th, and my husband has finals the week before and with all the regular stuff and holiday stuff I'd like to be done by December 1st so I'm not crazy with things to do.

Last night DD showed me a tshirt that she wants for xmas. So I asked her what else she wanted (she is 16). She said in a semi-joking manner "I want a chance to go to college" (she is in full college mode in HS right now).

So I said "You already have that". And then I paused and said hopefully "So does that mean I am off the hook for xmas??"

She was not amused

So yeah, except for one tshirt I have no clue what to get her or anybody else

I've got a good portion of mine finished as well.

I like starting early. It is a lot easier on my wallet to do it in small nibbles rather than in one big chunk.

I'm done buying for DS and SO. I got my mom a big something and need to get a little something else for her. A few other people and I'll be done!

I'm super happy about it because I really hate the crowds and the traffic. Bah humbug.

Trust me, youre not the only one. There have been lots of online shopping lately...and big boxes (not by me...I am procrastinating on my very small list)

I don't even think about Christmas shopping until after Thanksgiving. And it's fun being in all the crowds, with the decorations and Santa and Christmas music playing.

Back in August, I had DD and my nephew go onto Amazon to make a wish list. It made shopping for them easier. They knew they wouldn't get everything, but it gave me lots of choices.

So far, I have a chunk of DD's gifts. I am done shopping for my nephew and half done with mom's.

I'm almost finished too.

I go way overboard at Christmas. Not with gifts, with decorating. I put up trees in almost every room. They all have themes. (I already have three up ) The outside of the house is decorated and looks like a gingerbread house.

We're crazy. Wait. I'm crazy. DH tolerates me.

DH went to Walmart for me the other night to get me some clear lights for one of the trees. The checkout clerk looked at him and said, "I'm sorry..."

DH said, "You have no idea. This is nothing."

gahurts, I am going to have to take you off my non-existent Christmas card list! Crowds are fun??? Oy, and I thought you were myb friend!

I may shop long before Christmas, but I don't decorate until the week before.

I generally start on boxing day sales. The presents are there for the entire year. Birthdays chrismas etc

My sister has a ceiling in her living room that goes up two stories. So she bought this HUGE tree. She told me this morning it's going up today.

She decided if it's going to take hours and hours and multiple trips up a ladder to get it all up then she wants to enjoy it for longer than a few weeks.

She's puppy sitting for me in December. My stomach sank when I considered what my puppy will do to that tree over a week long visit . We aren't even putting our tree in the living room this year, but downstairs in the rec room where he can't get to it .

Me too Dude! I like to deliberately postpone some shopping till Christmas Eve and go out into the mass chaos. What a high! It's great!

I had no idea Christmas shopping before Thanksgiving was an option!

When I was very young, I loved the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping about 2 weeks before the holiday. I lived in a small town with a downtown shopping area, and it was so festive. Then malls entered the picture, and I OD'd on the Christmas overload.

Fast forward to after DS was born. The X was a police officer, and our Christmas money was his uniform allowance that came through about 10 days before Christmas. Talk about panic shopping! Then there was the year we were so broke, all of DS's presents came from the office supply aisle in Walmart--but he loved it.

Now? I shop on line and have the gifts sent to DS & DIL. There is absolutely nothing I can buy for my mom that she would want or use, so I plan a visit to see her as her present. I do plan to take the train down to NYC in December to see the sights; I haven't done that in years!

Now, talk to me next year after the baby comes in February...

This is actually something I really miss now that I'm divorced. XH was a sh*t in many many ways, but he was sooo much fun to buy Christmas stuff for every year... And there really isn't anyone else now. DS loves gizmo things but really wants/needs money more than anything else (plus he moves a lot so can't really accumulate much stuff). I miss having a reason or two to shop at thinkgeek.com all the time
