Tell me what you know about F1 racing. This is year two, and the whole culture seems to have consumed Austin, and it seems pretty cool. (Though I'm home sick this weekend so I'm watching from afar...lol).

Definitely good for the economy. There are some incredibly wealthy people who come in for this race, some some very pricey parties going on, but I like that they've also turned downtown into a Fan Fest atmosphere that's free - gives everyone an opportunity to enjoy.

A friend of mine met and posted pics with Gabi Gifford downtown last night. Wow. I'm not big on the whole celebrity thing, but that's pretty cool.

I've heard there are some traffic issues, but that's just always an issue in Austin...lol.

Anyone into this type of racing? As I understand it it's much larger outside of the US.

I don't know racing, but my son is a HUGE racing fan (mainly NASCAR, but he also likes Indy and F1). DS17 and XWH flew to Texas for the weekend to be at the Austin race.

From what DS tells me, its following here in the US is starting to grow.

My son's FB posts have been filled with pics, so it is obvious he is having a great time.

Me - late 40s

WH#2 (SorryinSac)- Killed himself (May 2015) in our home 6 days after being served divorce docs.
XWH #1 - legally married 18yrs. 12+ OW (that I know of).

I edit often for clarity/typos.

Can confirm that this is very big business in Europe.

I live in Germany and all the races are on the number one channel here. Same goes for France and the UK. I know it is also very popular in Italy.

We actually live 1 hour from the track used for the German Grand Prix!!!!

I have not been but exwh went several times.....

It was a passion of his but not mine!!!!!!!

Therefore a F1 free house is a small but satisfying part of my New Beginning

My brother is a HUGE fan. Took his wife to Montreal for their honeymoon to see a race. We SO love that girl! My nephew is named after a F1 driver. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he is there this weekend. I guess I should keep in better touch with him!

F1 is caviar to NASCAR's hot dog

Take earplugs if in person in case you're close to the action - engines revving to 14,000 RPM produce a banshee scream (love it but it can be LOUD).

It's easy to underestimate the skill required to drive one - this will give you some idea:

My cousin lives in Austin and has been posting pics all weekend. And she's relatively dressed up as opposed to when she goes to a NASCAR race. What's up with that???

Love F1. Was lucky enough to meet some F1 superstars in my day, including Michael Schumacher. Take TR's advice and bring earplugs if you go to a race. You will not believe the screaming noise as the machines fly past.
