Son and his family visited last weekend from 800 miles away.
GS wanted to have some balloons blown up, so S & I blew some up.
They're still around ... we're gonna keep 'em as long as possible.
S & DIL are adults. They're supposed to move away. We're over 700 miles away from our home towns.
But I sure wish our GS lived 30 minutes away....

Sisoon, I know what you're feeling. When my GDs were quite little, they lived a 3 1/2-4 hour plane ride away. The summer of 2012, they moved to 1/2 hour from my house. Though I visited often when they lived far away, I missed a lot of their babyhood, but now that they're nearby, I sure am enjoying their childhood. Hope they don't decide to move away again! Now the GDs' other Nana, who lives 1/2 hour from where the GDs used to live, is the one who pines for them to be closer and has to be content with frequent visits and Skypes.

Yes, Skype saves my sanity. That and being able to see pics on FB (the reason I'm still using it). It's a long and expensive plane ride for a visit, so not very frequent.

If it's any consolation...I'm 27 now and still remember trips to my grandparents' house/ their trips to my parents' house as some of my absolute favorite memories, and what sticks out for me is the difference in cultures between my hometown and where they lived. It was so much fun as a kid getting to experience a place different than my own town and having my grandparents bring gifts representative of their city when they visited us.
They moved closer when I was in high school, and while that time was special in its own right, there really was something magical about traveling to visit them before then.

He didn't show up for the D...very fitting, seeing as he didn't show up for the M, either : )

Sorry it took so long to get back here. Yup - GS photos are the only reason I'm on FB, and I love Skype, although he'd rather play than talk to us.
Thanks for sharing, mixedemotions. Our kids loved their GPs, and they know GPs help kids, so they're really good at bringing GS to see his 4 GPs and even my 95 year old mother. Weall love seeing him, and he loves seeing us.
