Wow ... 2.6 inches of snow ...

This should have been called "Dustingmageddon"

It does make you chuckle…even if you had to deal with the crap.

But Gahurts and Sadcat have it right…it was simply a confluence of bad things: snow, just the right temperature and dew point (the precip froze pretty much as soon as it hit the ground), essentially rush hour at mid day, complete lack of planning on the part of the municipalities and some less than competent drivers.

On the way into work today it did look like the Apocalypse! Abandoned cars all over the place. Abandoned tractor/trailers in the middle of the road. A couple cars on their side in the ditch.

The going in prediction was that most of it would hit south of the Atlanta area. But, the weather dudes and dudettes repeatedly said that is was a "curious" system and that most anything could happen. And yet….the officials did exactly NOTHING in preparation.

****trying not to be political here ****

One rather high-level executive official in the state is blaming it on "Mother Nature". A certain employee of the government of Atlanta apparently is grousing about the fact that the pictures shown on TV and newspapers aren't of Atlanta "proper" and so the stories are "misleading".

Ah well…..we’ll do it again in a few years. Looking forward to it.

Ahem ... did you happen to mention NO SNOW TIRES on any of the cars? I think not!!

No salt trucks

No snow plows

etc.
