LF and I spend sometime around the Picton area last summer ... really enjoyed the wine tours, the lake on the hill etc. there is a lot of politics around the issue of windmills on the island but then again, whats new about that issue. LOL
Yup, second hand homes bring a whole new challange with trying to have modern conveinfes while living with a older built property.
But if you do eventually find something there, let us know, we will visit!!

I just put an offer on one of the other properties--actually much more land (2.66 acres). The house is newer, so of course it a) has none of the first house's problems, but b) has not much of its charm. However, since land was a major point in my buying there, I think this is a smarter decision. And it won't bankrupt me.
And this one has a huge modern outbuilding (hello, art studio!).

Good for you! I am so jealous. I dream of a cabin on a little lake. We keep looking, but in these parts "cabin" can often mean a lot more than what I'm envisioning!!

This place is about 1500 sq ft of living space plus probably another 800 sq ft in the outbuilding. So there will be no roughing it.
If I get it, I'll host an Ontario gettogether!

One more hurdle done! Sellers agreed to my purchase price, but there is another bidder, a young couple who placed an offer conditional on their sale of their own property, an inspection and a couple of other conditions. I placed an unconditional bid because I went down there with my inspector and gave it the green light and I don't require financing. My agent think the other bidders will not--cannot--remove their conditions within the 48 hours they are allowed in their contract clause, so I may have myself a country house. I'll know early Friday. And for $20,000 below asking. Now if a miracle happens and some relative fronts the entire [purchase price for that young couple, this may have a different outcome. Interesting, people. Interesting. If I don't get it, I'm being saved for something better, but I kinda hope I get it!
HUFI, it's a great area. I love it there. I've been renting a place there in the summer for many years.
