Nothing I can't handle - but we are going through a really rough spot at the moment and SI always helps me in one way or another.
DH's son was hit by a van on Saturday morning, so we are all on edge and stress out. I have tried to take care of the kids 100% so he can go the hospital at anytime for any length of time...thank god for my net of family.
Yesterday morning I said something stupid even though I was trying to break some of the seriousness of the past few days - and it backfired big time. I tried to apologize many times, but was given the silent treatment.
The backfire was so bad in fact that he ignored me all day long and then we kind of fought that night - he actually slept on the couch and he NEVER sleeps on the couch.
It's moments like these that make me see how easy it is to slip back into the selfish 'I don't need this kind of shit' mentality and do for me.
I am stronger then this, and we will get through this stressful time as well. My focus is on him, so he has all the time he needs to help his son and not have to worry about home....that's all I can do right now.

Well, we have all suffered from foot-in-mouth disease at some point. Your's probably just managed to come at a particularly rough time. Please keep soldering on, taking care of the family business so he can concentrate on his son and show him by your actions, that you're there to support him.
Here's an idea. I don't have any idea of how badly his son was hurt, but is there some sort of care basket that you might be able to put together for your husband to take to the son? Snacks, cough drops, books, magazines directed towards his interests, etc., to try to ease some of the hospital boredom that sets in? Might be a nice gesture of concern.
Imagine a ship trying to set sail while towing an anchor. Cutting free is not a gift to the anchor. You must release that burden, not because the anchor is worthy, but because the ship is.

Thanks - I tried that already once, DH said he didn't like carrying in a baggie of crap (his words)...I know what he means. The walk from where we have to park, to the actual room, is quite a distance.
I basically just raided my cash stash can said 'get what you want, no worries'...that seemed to help.
It was pretty serious, but DSS is young and healing fast. Apparently though he's somewhat a medical anomaly as there have been many comments of "he should be hurt 10 times as much, if not dead"....he came away with apparently much fewer injuries then what usually happens in this kind of pedestrian versus car.
