That is the dumbest excuse ever. (no offense) He is getting in a car and spending fuel money anyway. Why would you in the car too be anymore expensive? Restaurants have dollar menus or cheap options. Theme parks have coupons and child discounts. And if he still cant afford it, there are a million free things to do. And how hard is it to include you when he takes off for DD and MIL? There is no legit reason to not include you.
Alyssa honey, this isn't a real relationship. I hope you find your voice to speak up and stand your ground.

Thats a good point....one that I have brought up before many times. His rationalization is that if they do things with his mother she spends money, not him.
Its not that our relationship isnt real, I think its better to say we both have very different needs and priorities
Sometimes the worst thing that happens to you.....the thing you think you can't survive....its the thing that makes you better than you used to be.
