I am sitting in a cafe in my work neighborhood waiting for a few sandwiches to take back to work for SFGary & me. I have been sitting here trying to calm down because I just got off the phone with a lender that I thought we were working with, who just now advised me that we aren't profitable enough to get the business loan we need in order to open up a second location. I was wallowing in self pity.

A very disabled man in a wheelchair approached me, and I thought he wanted to get past me, so I scooted my chair in. He was unable to talk, and it looked like he was only able to move one hand. He pointed to some french fries on the floor a few times. I still didn't understand what he wanted until I saw his glove on the floor. I walked over, picked up his glove, turned it rightside out, and then he wanted me to help him put it on. So I did. Afterwards he shook my hand four different ways. I went back to my table, and he went to leave. After he wheeled around my chair again he stopped at my table, waved at me, and left.

I had been sitting feeling sorry for myself, poor me. Business doesn't work quite right, marriage is a real challenge, kids are off from school and are fighting with each other a lot. And I have nothing to feel bad about. I have small setbacks, but will pull myself up, and move myself forward. I am very grateful that I am able to do this. I have no real adversity in my life. I just learned a very valuable lesson.

And, in the middle of all that, you were able to step outside your grief, and help someone in need.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Just because your challenges may not be as troubling as his, they are still your challenges.

Just keep them in perspective. It will all work out.

You were visited by what people call an angel. I'm so glad you received the message.

You are important and you matter. Your feelings matter. Your voice matters. Your story matters. Your life matters. Always.

What Sad said, for sure.
