DD has a sliver in the bottom of her foot and has been limping all day. My BH, father and I have all tried getting it out but have not been able to....DD cries and scream when we try (obviously).

I have also tried baking soda mixed with water which worked before but didnt this time. And we tried glue once which didnt work at all.

Any other ideas?

I see you're in MA, if you're close I can swing by and help

My way may not be any better. I use very sharp, pointy crafting tweezers. I carefully pull away the broken skin from where the sliver went in to expose it a bit more and I can than usually pull it out. Or I try to work it out with my thumbnails.

A trick I use with my daughter is to give her a favorite stuffed animal to hold. Sometimes it helps, sometimes, not so much.

Good luck.

Any luck yet? Usually slivers will work themselves out on their own if your DD cannot tolerate intervention. But if it's hurting her...

Use a needle to poke a hole through her skin, close to the sliver area. Poking the hole should NOT hurt because you're only poking the outer layer of skin and going across horizontally, not vertically (east to west vs north to south).

Then use the needle as a rolling pin to "roll/push" the sliver towards the opening you just poked. Once it's close to the opening, the tweezers should be able to extract it.

If it happens again duct tape! I'm serious. Use it if there is a bit outside of skin for the adhesive to grab. Rub real well over the sliver. Pull in the direction to remove the sliver.

We used this all the time camping, one of the kids we as always needing something removed slivers, cactus splines, etc. they also sat still because no one was coming at them with any thing sharp!

Yup, a soak, then duct tape. Which is also awesome for plantar warts.
