Sad, I had a look last night for the article but I can't identity it. Can you post a link please?
I am 2 years into this and I will never greet or farewell the sad clown - my focus is on my girls during the (rare) in person handover. I am happy and upbeat as I collect or handover the girls. I too get the pointed "Hi SBB!!", "Bye SBB!" but that isn't for the girls benefit but just to goad me.
My feelings are not hostile - they are avoidant.
If something needs to be communicated we do it civilly without hostility. We do interact somewhat handing over bags/instructions but any time there has been a discussion (raised by him - I now refuse to engage and ask him to email me) the tone gets hostile on his part so I avoid it like the plague.
I don't believe it is always necessary to interact with each other and in fact it can be damaging where one or both of you has some sort of vendetta.
Would it be a nice to have for the girls? Probably. It is not a possibility because it opens the door to fuckery.
I may have reached a point where I'd piss on him if he was on fire.... eventually!!

Same here. My ex & I do not communicate verbally. On the rare occasions we've had to be at the same school functions we did not speak, acknowledge each other's presence, or interact in any way. I have had a lifetime's supply of being yelled at by him, something that he's never failed to do even after we separated. He is unable to communicate with me verbally unless he's yelling & insulting, and it doesn't matter if we are in public and/or the kids are around.
My kids MUCH prefer it this way, and honestly so do I.
