blake, I totally remember you writing about that convo you had with your Mom.
My go-to guy on the other hand has not waivered and our relationship has deepened emensely. I would even state confidently that I have helped HIM grow and mature in ways he needed to too.
I am glad you have a go-to guy and that he is a "solid" for you. Funny. But I was hoping that my bf would see the growth in me and in my M and take something away with her. She would often get so angry at people incapable of change - and then say when they show signs of changing we can let them in. I heard the words...just didn't see the action behind them.
Which brings me to one of the best pieces of advice I got in Dec 2012 - Turn down the volume and watch. What do you see? My dad is a shining example of that. I think 35 years of AA plays a big part in that!
