Soooo I have been practicing more and lo and behold am getting stronger. And my Lyme seems to be in remission.
Decided I would like to try to progress to some poses people call more advanced. You know...the ones some people call yoga porn that you see on the covers of magazines. I want to work on progressing to maybe one or 2 of those poses because why not?
I figured out shoulder balance on my own and am gonna try 2 legged dog..should be able to figure that out without a trip to the ER but still would love to hear from someone who is doing something other than flows and sun salutations. That is all great stuff, but I am interested in hearing what other poses some of you are progressing:)
anybody got firefly figured out? Scorpion? any other cool ideas?

holy cow - those are difficult poses. 2 legged dog?
I'm a yoga teacher and have not progressed myself to scorpion or firefly/insect.
I would urge you to get a yoga wheel as an opening tool.
I follow Ally trout on insta. She has recorded her progression on lots of those moves.

2 legged dog? I'm a yoga instructor and I've never heard of that one.
I can partially do tittabasana (firefly). I can get my legs over my shoulders so I'm balancing on my hands, but I can't point my feet toward the sky. I can do a forearm balance with the wall, but not full scorpion. Those are very advanced.
Have you tried headstand or handstand?
Crow and it's variations. I'm working on flying pigeon. I can balance on my hands, but can't get my leg straight.
There's one we've done balancing on hands with one leg straight out over a shoulder and the other straight back. Can't remember the name of it. You star in low lunge, put your arm closest to your bent knee under that leg with your hand on the floor outside the foot. Lift the front foot up and straighten the leg. Lean slightly forward, keeping your head up, and lift the back leg straight.
There's also one that's kind of like a variation of side plank. You are up on one hand and one leg like side plank but you grab the toe or foot of the top leg and stretch it out over and behind your head.
I wish I knew the names of those poses.
I consider wheel an advanced pose.

Pose Dedicated to the Sage Koundinya I and II
Eight-limb pose. I wish I could do that one.
Eka Pada Bakasana II, one legged crane II
Peacock
Visvamitra(?) That's the one I was talking about that's like a variation of side plank. I got the legs mixed up. It's the bottom leg that is held beyond the head underneath.

Eagle
Dancer
Bird of Paradise
There's a pose where you start out like in janu sirsasana, bend your knee up toward the sky so the foot is flat on the floor just inside your thigh, wrap your arms around the bent knee grasping your hands behind your back, fold forward. It's named after a sage. I can never remember the names of those ones. If you can't quite grasp your hands together, you can use a strap.

hello coco and Seward
lots of good stuff here. thanks!
I will reply to a little at a time and am open to PMS of pics of poses as well as cues, tips etc on this thread.
sooo I do practice eagle and crow and dancer. I do not teach them because I am a lower level fitness yoga teacher.
One Peacock makes me want to practice crow more and maybe progress to peacock.
Think one is with straight arms so gonna work on that! thanks.
I managed a couple of seconds of two legged dog and that grabbing the bottom foot in plank seems approachable :)
Yea..the poses named after the sages...guess they are next lol
Thanks!
will post progress soon!
you ladies rock!

I thought you were talking about straight-armed crow. That's sometimes called crane.
Idk one-legged peacock.

I don't see how there could be a one-legged peacock because both legs are off the floor. Likewise, I can see a straight-armed peacock. I did find an image of a one-armed peacock.
Learning so much.

Oh and anyone into some of the more fun plank variations like commando? That is the American name and not sure if any of these have sanscrit equivalents but it is full plank down to forearm plank and back up again. Now that is lots of fun on a Saturday night!

Not sure it had a name but routinely bring that into my classes.

Seward
If you routinely bring that into your classes then I am officially scared to ever take your class.
That is sooo hard for me and I do a lot of plank. It is not the full plank or the forearm plank that does me in, but the one forearm down other forearm down and then one arm up and then the other part that burns lol

Is this the peacock you are talking about. I cannot see how that could be one-legged.
