Troll season

HFSSC posted 11/5/2020 06:40 AM

Well, they are climbing out from under their bridges and showing up everywhere, arenít they?

DragnHeart posted 11/5/2020 07:11 AM

Here at SI or just generally everywhere???

BigBlueEyes posted 11/5/2020 07:34 AM

Can someone fill me in...Iím confused 🤷‍♀️

Ok I googled just to be sure itís what I thought it was!

People actually do this on an infidelity site?

HFSSC posted 11/5/2020 07:44 AM

Yep. Iíve spotted two this morning. 🙄

DragnHeart posted 11/5/2020 07:47 AM

You've got good eyes. I've looked but dont see what you have lol.

BraveSirRobin posted 11/5/2020 07:53 AM

I think the competition is stiff out there on the political sites. Everyone is already triggered, so the less skilled trolls can't get people's attention. Eventually they get frustrated that they aren't good enough to swim with the big fish, and they start looking for smaller ponds.

Mostly in the JFO section.

Ohhhhhh. I dont typically go in there.

bookworm19 posted 11/5/2020 10:37 AM

I have no troll radar, I don't spot them, but I do wonder why would anybody do that, they must be really bored, I guess. What should we watch for to spot them? What are the red flags for trolls, I'm just wondering.

HFSSC posted 11/5/2020 11:17 AM

For me, if there are an abundance of salacious details offered, especially coupled with what seems to be an atypical emotional reaction I will usually raise my eyebrows.

I will sometimes pm a mod with my suspicions if my spidey senses are really pinging, lol. Usually I'm just bemused and don't say anything. I said to someone else this morning, infidelity is hard, and I don't wish it on anyone. But really, how sad and pathetic must one's life be to find amusement in trolling this site? SMH

HellFire posted 11/5/2020 11:24 AM

Mostly in the JFO section

But sometimes they also pretend to wear the WS hat! And a BS hat! For some reason, they enjoy that! If you pay attention, it's easy to see!

*Note the excessive use of the "!"!!

Perhaps they are getting overwhelmed with Election trolling and want to spice it up with posts here. I saw the Wayward one.

99problems posted 11/5/2020 16:25 PM

Ok, I just saw both those posts!
Who uses an exclamation point on every, single, sentence!
It's really weird and annoying!

Seriously though, what could you possibly be gaining by trolling people on this website?
I have wondered how many of the jfo posts are made-up, some of them just don't seem believable.

I used to belong to a fertility website, there were trolls there also. Crazy, people pretending to want to be pregnant, being pregnant, it was really sad. I could see how trying to get pregnant (if that was truly the case) could make you do some crazy things, but here??? I'm not sure why anyone would want to troll this site.

DragnHeart posted 11/5/2020 17:18 PM

A cheater wanting to get under the skin of betrayed as a cheap thrill.

Thank you all for the explanation. English is not my 1st language and sometimes I miss some nuances...

SI Staff posted 11/6/2020 11:47 AM

Please refrain from calling out members as trolls. If you're wrong, it makes them feel unwelcome and less likely to return. If you're right, it makes it easier for them to cover their tracks which makes it harder for us to keep them out. If you see something questionable, tell someone on Staff.
