CLEARING SEARCH IN WINDOWS EXPLORER
- Open the Search Companion, there's a list of "what do you want to search for" click "change preferences"
near the bottom of the list. It has an option for "auto complete". You can turn it on or off. (mom of 2)

MOZILLA FIREFOX BROWSER
- History: Click on 'Go,' in the upper left corner, then look for history and history manager.
- Tools menu and under that you will find *cookies* and *stored passwords*.
- Tools > Options > Privacy > Categories window:
- History - it may say "Remember visited pages for 0 days" - change to however many days you want.
- Saved Form Information - Check the box that says "Save information I enter..."
- Saved Passwords - check the box that says "Remember Passwords"
- Download Manager History - May say Remove files from the Download Manager "When Firefox exits" - change to "Manually"
- Cookies - may say Keep Cookies "until I close Firefox" - change to "Until they Expire"

To completely clear your Cache, Cookies and/or History in Mozilla FireFox (Silencio):
1. Go to Tools > Options.
2. Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.

Type 'about:cache' in the URL address bar to get a detailed listing of every cached file, and when you click on any entry you get a link to the content.
*If you are connected to the internet, and you click this link, it will just download the current page.

Yahoo/Hotmail/etc message windows have a "Private" feature that is supposed to prevent caching.
* Try looking at one of these entries while offline, and you get a message saying you must be online to view this content; of course if you try that, you just get the login page.

* With Work Offline enabled, do View -> Page Source. You'll get a new window with lots of html gibberish.
* Keep scrolling through until you find text that looks like e-mail. The Firefox cache contains 90% useless chaff...you need to find the links that actually represent sent or received e-mails, and these are not organized in any way.
A better (but slightly more involved) way to view a cached file is to:
- highlight *all* of the code/gibberish text from the 'view source' window, then copy and paste it to a notepad (.txt) file. Save this to the desktop as some name (doesn't matter what), then close notepad and rename the file so that xxx.txt becomes xxx.html or xxx.jpg or xxx.gif . Click yes to any nag/confirmation boxes. Then doubleclick the xxx.html file you just made, and it should open in your web browser and look like a normal web page. (Silencio)

AOL: Copying an account on your computer to read without a PW
- Pull up screen name of account you want to check. Without signing on, go to "Mail" then to "Saved on my PC (Filing Cabinet)"
- SumrLady's tip on how to access AOL password protected Filing Cabinet (this method would work for other ISPs, too, just find out the name of the file that stores the filing cabinet on the PC:
1) Create a new AOL screenname to be used later, or use one that you don't care about. You will eventually replace the filing cabinet of this screenname with the filing cabinet of your WS, so make sure you don't care if you lose the info in it. Let's call this dummy account Snooper1.
2) After you have created Snooper1, make sure you have a different screenname showing in the dropdown box of screennames, or AOL will lock the files associated with your dummy account and give you an error message later in the process.
3) Next, open your My Computer icon and navigate to Program Files directory, then the AOL directory, then to the "Organize" directory. You will see a group of files that start with the screennames on the account. They have different extensions, but we will be working with the one that has no extension.
4) Now, delete the one with no extension that matches your dummy account (Snooper1) by right clicking on it and selecting delete. If you get an error message not allowing you to delete it, refer to 2) above.
5) Next, if your WS's screenname is Scumbucket (for example), then look for the file named Scumbucket. Not Scumbucket.bak or anything else, just Scumbucket. It's usually a bigger file than the others, too. *Remember, it's the one with no extension.* This is Scumbucket's Personal Filing Cabinet file.
6) Right click on Scumbucket, and select *copy* from the drop down box. Go to some other directory (doesn't matter where - there's a Cache directory right next to Organize that's convenient), right click again, and select save.
7) Right click on the Scumbucket file you just made in the other directory, and select rename.
8 - Type in the screenname of your dummy account (Snooper1) and hit enter. You have just changed the name of the Personal Filing Cabinet file of the WS to your new dummy AOL account name. This file now is Scumbucket's data, renamed Snooper1.
9) Move the new file you have just created back to the AOL/Organize directory.
10) Open AOL and sign on to your new Dummy account (Snooper1). Open the Filing Cabinet. Guess what??!!!! It's your WS's Filing Cabinet contents!!! Bingo!!!
*The Password Protection doesn't carry over to the new file you created.
Clear the contents of the Recycle Bin. None of this will show up in Recent Documents or History. All a keylogger will catch is the typing of the new dummy screenname when you rename the file (they don't record mouseclicks, which is all the other commands used).

Yahoo! Instant Messenger
- To find out when it was installed: use Windows Explorer and go to C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger. View the INSTALL.LOG file with any text editor. This will contain the date and time that the installation began.
- Logging messages:
Yahoo! does provide a way to save instant messages manually and does have an archiving feature built in to the program. Neither of them is reliable.
- Manually: click on Conversation and then select Save As. Choose the directory where you would like the file to be saved and click on Save. This is a very difficult process if you are receiving instant messages from numerous users.
- With the Archiving feature but the feature must be manually set up and it doesn’t capture the entire conversation which makes it unreliable:
Click on Messenger, then click on Preferences and select Archive. Check or uncheck the appropriate boxes according to what you would like to archive and click on Ok.
- To find where Yahoo received files are stored:
Click Browse to select file from a directory on your computer, floppy disc, a CD or other removable media. Select the file that you would like to send and click Open. There is an option to add a description. Do so if you like then click Send.
A dialog box will appear to confirm that your file has been received. You will receive confirmation when your file has been received
- To find the date and time the service was last used on your computer go to C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\ There you will see a file named ypager.log
Even if you are using a bitstream copy of the media, make a copy of the file before examining it. DO NOT open the file. Hold your curser over the file name in Windows Explorer and record the date, time and file size.
Using the copy, check the date, time and file size and make sure that it is the same as the original.
Highlight the file name and right click on it and select “Properties.” Click in the “read only” box. Then click on “Apply.” Now you can open the file without accidentally changing the contents. ypager.log is a plain text file that can be viewed with Windows Notepad. To view it, double click the file. If you don’t already have .log files associated with Notepad, a window will open asking you to select the program you want to use to open it. Select Notepad.
Read from top to bottom. The last entry would the date and time the last message was sent. It doesn’t record the year, so look at the properties for the correct year.

- To find out if someone uses AOL IM:

If the user has created a profile, you may find that information available too. You may also search by name and phone number as well as special interests.
- To find the e-mail address of an AIM user:
This technique will only work if you have access to the person's computer. After signing on, click on My Aim, Edit Options, Update E-Mail Address. This will show you the address that the person used to sign up for or update the account.
- To tell if the user is using AOL or AIM:
Neither AOL nor AIM, notifies members that another has added them to their buddy list. Add your friend to your buddy list and be notified when he or she signs on. To find out if the person on your buddy list is using AOL or AOL IM, place your curser over the buddy’s screen name in your buddy list. If the buddy is signed on with AOL, it will tell you in the yellow comment box that pops up.

KEYLOGGER ON YOUR PC?
- Two free software utilities that are good for detecting key logger software are Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware.
- The best way, I have found and I'm sure it's not fool proof is to go into Regedit and under the find function, put in keylogger and it will search regedit and if there's anything in there, it will show up.
I don't know if this will work if the actual program was renamed by the person installing it. (curiousgeorge)

4. Presto!! Up comes the name on the account!

If you call from a cell phone, you have long distance, so you can pick a number anywhere.
- Press the # key to skip a message after you have listened to it to save it as new.
- Also, if you hang up before the message is finished, it stays set as 'new'.

Then go to USPS.gov (I think thats it, just do a search for zipcodes) and get all zips for that town or area. Plug them in one after the other. If it gives an area like "Terminal Arizona", try calling your local sprint store and find out where the prefix originates. That will help with the zipcodes.

SO, I think it goes 1 wee or 2 back in time, and you can see EVERY message then sent, either phone to phone to text site to phone or email to phone! And no, doesn't matter about voicemail. Once Paraben is downloaded and ready to go:

- Click "next". I did this twice for each phone I tested (both Motorolas). Once using the "logical", and again using the "physical".
- The next screen opens the drop down menu and select your model. Too many to list depending on the phone... For mine (Motorola), the only option was "Auto Detect".

- Choose your connection type. This is where you tell Paraben where to look for the data cable. I had options for "Communications Port 1", "Communications Port 2", and
"Communications Port 3". I had a HARD time with this one. But it finally worked.

Then it should start gathering the data - only took my phones about 20 seconds, but I didn't get a lot of info.

SUGGESTIONS TO FIND CELL PHONE NUMBER'S OWNER:
First, try the obvious, you might just get lucky:

- call in the middle of the night or call the backdoor number and listen to the outgoing message, even if you don't have a password to listen to messages, you can find out the name on an unknown number if they recorded it and their sex, as well as what cell provider it is.

- Go to whitepages.com and type in the phone number. See if it will tell you who the mobile carrier is.

Use a caller ID spoofing service similar to camophone...
Spoof the cell number you are questioning to a phone and see if a name comes up on the caller ID.
Sometimes it will just come up "wireless caller" or "out of area" but about 30% of the time, it will come up with a name. (LynW)
