Don't start these books if there are children, pets, laundry, shopping, cooking or chores of any kind that require your attention.

Once you start them, nothing else will matter.

I like the show (DH is obsessed), and I really want to read the books now.

I'm rereading now. DH is on the 3rd book (finally convinced him that the books are better than the show) and he's been driven to distraction by them.

I'm not-so-patiently waiting on the 6th book to come out. The series is won-der-fullllll.

DH is on book 4 and I'm halfway through book 3. I never would have considered the series if he hadn't started reading it, but I LOVE it!!

One night DH asked me to read aloud to him, so I agreed to do so while he gave me a backrub. Unfortunately the chapter had Vargo Hoat in it....just about pissed myself tryingto read the lisp out loud!!

Haven't seen the HBO series yet, but I just started the fourth book. Really enjoying the books so far, although I disagree with some of the characters he has decided to kill off. Won't go into any further detail, so as not to create any spoilers.

I'm in book 2. I'd describe them as a mix of fantasy (barely, even though that's probably the genre they're considered to be), medieval political intrigue and soft porn.

I'm kinda neutral about them. They're just good enough to keep me reading.

I've read all the books that are written (there are supposed to be two more coming) but I haven't seen the HBO series.

I LOVED the books!! And they definitely do not always go where you think they'll go.

Maybe I'll look into the HBO series...is the first season on DVD yet?

It's worth it. The first season did an excellent job of staying true to the books. Of course, they couldn't capture every scene in "Game of Thrones" but there are no major departures either.

I know I shouldn't go ahead of myself BUT .....does the author ever explain who Jon Snow's mom is and why Ned never wanted to talk about her?

This is one of the few movies/television shows I liked better than the books. I stopped halfway through book 3 because I just wasn't into it any longer.

Homeboy needed a stronger editor.

The books are phenomenal but I read the first one 10 years ago or thereabouts and George RR Martin takes such a LONG time to write each book that it has been difficult to keep track of who is who. He also doesn't mention some of the main characters in some of the books in the series, so it's easy to lose those plot threads.

Can't wait for April 1!!

I agree that the main drawback to reading the series is that it is not done. And he takes forever writing each book.

However, they are fantastic. I started in 2001. And I didn't want to read an unfinished series.
