Ripped Toe Nail

Went upstairs to bed, and my dog was sound asleep on the bed, but there was blood everywhere. Seems she ripped a toe nail. It was hanging on but sticking out at about a 90 degree angle.

Took her to the emergency vet, who removed the toe nail and cleaned her up. Now, just gotta go clean up the carnage she left in my bedroom.

Here she is being consoled by my son in the vet's office after the mean old emergency vet finished working on her.....

The odds are greatly against you being immensely smarter than everyone else in the field. If your analysis says your terminal velocity is twice the speed of light, the chances are better that you've screwed up than you've invented warp drive.

This is not fun and games!!!! Make it go away!!!!!

I can't stand anything to do with nails. If I was ever tortured, all they would have to do is mention bamboo under the nails and I would admit to EVERYTHING they wanted. I would be like Chunk in the Goonies. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5UG7ISJfP0

Ouch. Poor Gal. Those dang things bleed like stink. I had to mop an entire house, and repaint a room when my dog did that. Did they remove the whole nail? That's what they did to my girl, and stiched it shut. That toe never had a nail again.

Hope she is able to stay quiet and let it heal. No cone of shame.

Chria,

Have you ever seen the results of a greyhound happy tail accident? I've heard it looks like a murder scene!

I hope your beautiful girl feels better soon.

DS, you are forever in my heart. Thank you for sharing your beautiful spirit with me. I will always try to live by the example you have set. I love you and miss you every day and am sorry you had to go so soon, it just doesn't seem fair.

My dog Reba had a torn nail a couple months ago. Same thing. After the vet took the remnant off all was fine after about 7 days, it hardened up and she quit licking it and forgot about it. Now I can't even tell which nail it was.

and I don't even want to know what a greyhound happy tail incident is. Reba is a German Shorthaired Pointer and her tail was docked shortly after birth. I guess it's partly to prevent that (they are very happy dogs)

Poor baby!!

Yeah, American Pit Bull Terriers are also notorious for happy tail. Little Prince had it once, and it was gory, splatter everywhere as he continued to wag his tail throughout the house!

My neighbor had a dalmation that had happy tail several times. He ended up getting his tail docked.
