Warning tmi...

My youngest will be three in less than two weeks.

He hasn't breast fed since he was three months old (wasn't gaining weight like his sister so doc insisted on formula)

I am still producing milk...more so from the left than the right but it's still coming. I had surgery on the right side to remove a lump, they took so much tissue out to be safe that the right side is lifted...

I'm not leaking but I can still express milk.

Is this normal?

When dd was born and in the NICU I was pumping. She was on a combination of breast milk and premie formula. My supply was so huge that I was leaking constantly and thus pumping All. The. Time...

When we tried to put her to the breast there was just so much coming out her little mouth couldn't latch. I spent months going to a bf clinic trying to get things to work but it was so frustrating for both of us. I just pumped and formula fed by bottle.

Eventually my supply decreased and eventually stopped.

This time around it hasn't. I have an appointment with my OB/gyn next week to discuss a separate female issue so I'll bring it up with him.

In the mean time has anyone else experienced this?

I'm 99% certain that this is not normal. Yes please share this with your OB/GYN.

For you to dry up though there has to be no stimulation to them, and they need to be binded until you dry up.....

I don't know when we bred dogs to get them to dry up we were told to take all food and water away for 24 hours. It ususally worked....Just wondering if that would work....

Then again I wasn't to concerned because of how long some woman bf their kids and thought maybe my body jut expected me to do the same.

It's not like it leaks on its own. I have to express it. Owell. Another thing to let the doc know about lol.

This milk issue always made me wonder if cows always have to be pregnant or have a calf in order to produce milk... One of those "hmmm I wonder" things that I haven't inquired about lol.

LOL I know the answer to the cow thing.....As long as they are being milked after they have their first calf they will continue to produce. Of course there are a few outliers that stop producing just like us.

The fact that there is milk ready to go in there even though you aren't feeding tells me that something is amiss.

Did you ever stop expressing your breasts? Some women hurt and continue to express milk causing them to in fact be "wet nurses".

If you ever did dry up and are now producing milk you should be seen by a OB/GYN or FP. Being pregnant again can do this, the pill can, certain drugs like Tagamet and marijuana can and a prolactin producing benign brain tumor can.

I had complications with my son and did not bf. I had to do the binding thing. Doc said if that didn't work there was a pill I could take to dry up. Def talk to your gym about this.

Thank you for the answer to the cow question. I always thought how much it would suck to always be pregnant if that's tHe only way they would continue to produce.

Now this does raise a question...if my breasts are constantly "played with" or wearing to loose a bra, could that contribute to it?

Tumor? Oh that would suck! Drugs, not taking anything but occasional Advil for headaches. Recreational drugs, again no. Pregnant, no...got my "friend" now which really isn't a guarantee since I had it for three months after I got pregnant with dd...but I don't think I am.

Yes if they are "stimulated" they will be more likely to produce. Even though I didn't produce enough milk to nurse, or pump I still had milk. My hormones were a wreck after delivery too. Essentially had to reset everything with a big load of progesterone, and the BCP's for a few months.

Anyway I know that was a contributor. So I had to Bind them down, and then I would wear a sports bra over that. Don't let the hot water from the shower hit them directly either. That really stimulates a let down.

It took me about 2.5 months to dry up, but I had hormone issues too.

I produced a ton then too...don't know if it was related or not. But, I swear, to this day, I can feel a "let down" if I hear a crying small baby. Nothing comes out, but I still have that feeling...and it has been 7ish years, and I've had a hysterectomy.

I still get that feeling. And having an African grey parrot that mimics a baby crying who has decided that crying is fun is a pain in the A$$!!!!!

I suffer from very bad PMS. For years my Cycles were so off that doctors suspected endometriosis. Only after having the kids have I started a regular monthly cycle.

Who knows... Hoping it's not some sort of tumor...just a hormone issue.
