This week I visited Thatcher State Park outside of Albany. It's on an escarpment (The Helderberg Escarpment), very rich in fossils (didn't find any!) and involves several Important Bird Areas (IBAs) for upstate New York.

Looking out over the upper Hudson Valley:

Heading to the Indian Ladder Trail (formerly inhabited by the Mohawk nation)

A slot cave (home to Indiana bats)

Underground river emerging

If you look closely, you can see the water 'trickle' (can't call it a fall...)

A bit of history:

Looking back at the escarpment (autumn is approaching)

Love the photos, Sad! That's a really cool looking area. Historic details are not my strong suit, so I'm going to having to look up the "Burgoyne Invasion". Glad you got to enjoy such a beautiful place!

TR: Embarrassingly enough, I forgot my binoculars (actually, I thought they were already in the car)

Need is rather subjective, TR; especially when you're marginally employed.

TG: Mt. Lemmon, Madera Canyon, Sabino Canyon (Thunder Canyon Brewery ) All fabulous! If you need any suggestions, let me know
