I'd like to hear some pros and cons, the good, the bad and the ugly about these mattresses.
Details on the different models, how long you've had one, and how they are holding up.
I'm interested in hearing about the off-gassing smell too.
TIA

We are on our second tempur pedic .
I love them. I no longer have any back issues and we sleep great. Our guest bed is also a tempur pedic. Never any complaints, only positive feedback.
I have no idea about the gas smell, never experienced it.
I will continue to purchase as long as budget allows.

I love mine. No gas smell after about a week ... it does take a week or so to air out.
I do find it's HOT but you can get the cooling pad!

I have had mine for 9 years.
I love it and will buy another one when I need to replace it, hopefully that is not for a while.
I don't remember it smelling, then again it was 9 years ago.
It does get toasty, get the one with the cooling pad.

Not Temper-Pedic, but Ikea has memory foam mattresses. I bought the thinnest version (about 8 inches thick) and I LOVE it. You probably need an Ikea bed, but they're very reasonable. I slept on it in AZ & TX and had no problems with it being hot.

I have two memory foam mattresses that both have the cooling gel. One is a Serta iComfort and the other is Tempur-Pedic. I love them both. Both had the smell for a bit but wasn't bad.
You are required by both to also purchase and use their impermeable mattress cover in order to get the warranty and be able to return it within the stated period if you decide you don't like it. The cover from Tempur-Pedic is much nicer, but the iComfort mattress was half the price of a Tempur-pedic and I think I like it just as well.
You really just need to try them. I also got a free Tempur-Pedic pillow and you can get other deals like bedding thrown in.
That was the second serta iComfort. The first went to xpos because I refused to keep it under the circumstances.

Had ours for 5 years now... absolutely love it.
Best sleep ever.
The smell isn't so bad and it goes a way fast... I'm sensitive to smells, so for me to say that means it must not have been too bad.
Will buy another if I ever have to replace it.
I don't find it too hot. But then, I'm usually cold in the winter and sleep without blankets in the summer.

AMAZING mattress. BEST $ ever spent.
We bought the step down from the "Grand Bed" It was several thousand $'s. and it's cashmere covered so it breathes nice. It don't notice it being hot.
It did smell in the beginning, but no more than anything else that has that "new" smell. It was gone after a bit.
We had bought several matress sets over two or three years and they were all horrible. H kept saying, "No way will I spend that much $ on a mattress!"
So here we are 8 years later and he says it's the best $ he's ever spent.
Don't they still offer the in home money back guarantee?

SO has one and I LOVE it. It is/was hot, but I was used to sleeping alone for a while and SO runs hot, so I'm not sure if it is really the bed or SO or a combination.

They are EXTREMELY hard to have sex on, in my experience. My XH and I had one and it was damned near impossible to move, change positions, etc.
I didn't like it for just that reason. My current H and I won't buy one for that reason.
ETA: Yes, it's also disgustingly hot, especially in the summertime. I can't stand heat when I sleep, so that's another reason.
My XH had his prior to our marriage, so I don't know how old it was. No smell in his. Well, except maybe when he broke wind (ugh).

Depends on the model. The gel topped ones give. IC says xpos is SA and HE wanted it, so I guess it works for him! There are model that you sink into after a few minutes and they can be very difficult to climb out of that position once there. I tried one like that in the store. You said his was from before, so maybe one of those? The gel is also cooler. Like I said, you just need to go try them. And rest on each for quite a while and change positions. I've been through thus 4 times in the past few years! And you should get the option to return if not happy...... for another, but maybe not a refund...? Check all that out and get the policy in writing.
