I have had a brother in law, niece, coworker, and my son tell me that this is THE best burger spot and it DOES live up to the hype. I know they started in California and just recently came to TX. Soooo, just curious. Is it really all that ?

Meh.

Cheaper than Five Guys, a really simple menu, tasty but really nothing to write home about.

I manage to find local diners with better burgers nearly everywhere I go.

It's part of that whole "California pride" thing, to my way of thinking.

Take care of yourself. There's a great future out there. It won't come to you; you have to go to it.

I hear you. The little local mom and pop places are almost ALWAYS better than the restaurant chain food

JKL...

I'm with TrustedHer...it's more hype than good food. If you're even in the Conroe, Texas area (about 15 miles north of us) make sure to stop at Burger Fresh. It was voted #3 (I think) burger joint in Texas by Texas Monthly. Amazing burgers and because I am a connoisseur of onion rings...hands down the best around!

I would tell you to go to the #1 burger joint in Texas...but I don't know where that is

It's in California

For the best burgers I love the local shops but I think In N Out and 5 Guys are both great for chains. I do stop on every trip to Cali to grab one.

Wasn't that Storm's in Lampasas? We used to eat there after the kids ball games - great burgers.

ETA - I've eaten at In-n-out and Five Guys. Both are passable but Storms is like a burger you'd make on your own grill. Somehow tastier.

Maybe I'm a tad bit biased being a SoCal native, but I do love In-N-Out!

It's fresh, delicious, and cheap. Win, win, win!

Try a Double Double with grilled onions. And get a shake too.

Now I might have to go there for lunch. Nom nom.

Thanks DS! If any of you Texans are driving through Lampasas, it's still pretty good.

I tried my first In-N-Out burger this past summer when I was out in CA. I thought it was really good! Legendary, no. Really good for a chain burger, yes. I'd say it's worth trying at least one time. I got the double double, animal style, with grilled onions. It made my belly happy for the rest of the day.

Toro Burger in El Paso makes the best burgers I've ever had, by far.

ETA: Just saw from DS' link that it was No. 4 in Texas! A well-deserved ranking IMO. I'd sure like to try Nos. 1-3 some day.

I love In & Out - animal style please! BUT - there are better burgers at locally owned, hole in the wall type of places. There is an I&O up the street from my house and it stays packed. Ironically, it's around the corner from a hole in the wall where a MUCH better burger can be found.

Also from SoCal and I know local folks and transplants who swear by In-N-Out. I never found it that great, though. Not bad, but not great.

I wouldn't make a special pilgrimage for it, JKL. Now, if you want to talk about some TX BBQ...we were driving through TX and met a guy who suggested we stop by Luling. Very yummy, and worth the detour. I would probably go out of my way to check out the BBQ of some rival towns if I am ever in the area again.

Completely fresh food with everything served prepped that day, a not so simple menu if you ask for what you want/know what to ask for, employees who are well paid ... I adore In-N-Out and definitely think it's worth checking out.

The suggestion was too much. Today's lunch. Cheeseburger with grilled onions, fries, and diet coke. Delicious!

I'm a southern Cali native. Live in Texas now. I don't think I have ever gone out of my way for In and Out. My two all time favorite burger joints since I've been in Texas are Dutch's (by TCU) which made number 8 on the list and Smash Burger, which for some strange reason isn't on the list at all. I've been to Twisted Root which was featured in Triple D but think that Smash Burger is far better!

If you just happen by an In and Out and you are hungry, great. But don't make a special trip for it.

If you keep asking people to give you the benefit of the doubt, they will eventually start to doubt your benefit.

In-N-Out is the best fast food burger. Head and shoulders above.

But that isn't the same as like local burger joints or specialty places.

#2 animal style, please.
