What is the scoop on this airline? Thanks.

My take is to never again fly Spirit. Cancelled flights, late, horrible manners of personnel.

Flew it once. Won't ever do it again. They were run very bare bones, upcharges for everything, rude staff who weren't knowledgeable about anything - as if each of them had just started working the day before I got there. And they kept pushing their credit card on passengers CONSTANTLY from check in through boarding and even during the flight.

It depends on how much you're paying for the flight and how long the flight is. If the fare with baggage fees is at least 30% less than another airline and the flight isn't over two hours, I usually consider the Spirit flight.
I've never had issues with their employees, I've always found the flight crews to be pleasant and helpful.
However, they do add a row or two extra to the planes and an extra seat to the rows (instead of two and three seats to a row, its three and three). You are squished in, which is fine for 90 minutes with a cheap fare, but not on a four hour flight.
The airline has always been timely on the flights I've taken. They've left late on a few flights I've taken, but I've attributed that to the airport, not the airline and have always made most of the time up in the air, arriving less than 10 minutes late.

I second what Matisse said. If the flight is short and cheap, and you aren't very tall, go for it.

I have flown Spirit airlines several times in the last year and have had only one problem with a delay, which was because of the flight being held up at another airport. Yes they do ask if anyone would like to apply for their credit card, but don't shove it down your throat. The flight attendants have all been pleasant so far, so no issue there. Yes you do pay for everything ie no free carry on, but you have a free personal item, like a small backpack, which I fill pretty full! Overall, I like Spirit Airlines.
