We have a 11 month old toy chi that has suddenly started to lick the hell out of everything. It has gotten so bad that my DD8 is constantly complaining, "Bos is do the licky, licky thing again!"

At first it was just the bed sheets, so he now sleeps in his pen in the kitchen. Then it was the sofa and now EVERYTHING! He's trying to lick my hands while I'm typing this.

Does anyone have a chi that does this as well? Or more importantly, does anyone know how to get him to stop? I've tried treats, distractions, forceful "no's", etc and nothing helps.

Take him to the vet an make sure he is healthy not low on any specific vitamin or mineral.

Then if it's become a compulsion you have to break the habit. There are some tried and true things that can help to break it. The most common one is pinching their lip in their teeth, it hurts and you may get a yip out of him. The other thing is to out some hot sauce on your finger and when he licks give him that it creates an unpleasant taste and will deter him. Then after you do this give him a Kong or something to chew or lick that is a real dog toy/treat.

Consistency is the key if he is allowed to get away with it then he will continue to try but if you really pay attention and consistently carry through you can change the behavior in a couple of days.
