Sooooooo, my heat pump dies last month without telling me. Ran for the last COLD month in emergency heat. Nice bill. Heat pump dude told me that this is a good thing, my old heat pump was 32 years old and the new ones are more efficient. I laughed, I didn't believe him.

It is April, but still need heat. It was 50 in my house yesterday. But today I have heat. And holy cow, it is blowing HOT air. HOT air is coming out of the vents for the first time ever. HOT. I moved here 12 years ago from a radiator heated house that was almost too hot. I called a repair dude the first winter because I thought there was something wrong, only blew lukewarm air. Nope, just a heat pump.

Well, just to let people know, new heat pumps do work better. Almost makes me not miss the $$$ in my emergency fund.

WOW! 32 YEARS??? You lucky soul, you!

(What brand?)

Is yours geothermal?

I saw your topic and thought, "I don't remember posting my question...."

I'm needing a new one (or part of a new one) and I'm scrambling to get smart on it all so I make the best choice ~

Glad you're pleased with your new system!!

Weeelll, it had some extensive work, including a new compressor 6 yrs ago to get to the ripe old age of 32 years. My heat pump isn't geothermal, I went with the most basic as this isn't my forever house, it is just until I get back on my feet house.

From my invoice:

Ducane R410a 13 SEER 36,000 BTU 3 TON

My "new" compressor went out, basically the transfer switch cracked off and you can't get a new compressor that runs on the old refrigerant and my inside handler, coil, etc can't run on the new refrigerant so I had to replace it all.
