My DS12 came home pissed off beyond recognition. His bus took a different route home today which meant he was on the bus for 50 minutes longer than usual.

During that long bus ride home the boys in the seat behind him were tormenting him... hitting him with pencils, stealing his backpack and so on...

Apparently this kinda thing has been going on, on and off, for most of the school year, but when he only had a 10 minute ride he said it was more tolerable.

I'm livid... I want the little bastards strung up by their balls.

How dare they mess with my kid...

Don't tell me boys will be boys, because that's just crap that people who want to do nothing say!!!

Meanwhile... I'm trying to empower my DS to solve his own problems and we came up with a plan of action. I will, of course, be his back up when and if he needs it... but for now he's going to try to work out the situation on his own.

I'm just heartbroken that he's had to endure this crap.

(((Hugs))) to you and your son.

I can't stand little punk kids who treat people like this. My DD7 came home yesterday saying she wanted to transfer schools because of a little girl in her class. She's been taking her lunch box, calling her a brat, and taking books away from her. I think at one point she even poked/hit her in the ribs. I've been telling her to keep away from her, but the girl seeks her out. I sent an email to the teacher today. I plan on getting this straightened out.

Anyway... After all that. I just wanted to say I know how you feel and I hope those boys leave your son alone

Thanks...

Some of you know I work at a school for kids with behavior problems and emotional problems...

I keep kids from bullying other kids all day long...

A) because it's my job

But more importantly... Because bullying is wrong!!!

And, of course, I have kids who curse me out and disrespect me... but I also know that if I told a few select students about this situation they'd be in my neighborhood on Monday afternoon to "correct" the situation!

Don't worry... I would never do that!

One of my co-workers/friends has a high school son, big scary looking kid... she offered to have him over here Monday when the bus arrives too.

Believe me... I'm thinking about it.

You should speak to whoever is in charge of transportation, and the bus driver should be brought into the conversation. If this is going on, hopefully he or she has made a report to their supervisor.

Your DS should sit behind the driver for the rest of the term.

You are important and you matter. Your feelings matter. Your voice matters. Your story matters. Your life matters. Always.

I understand completely. When ds15 was in 6th grade (1st year middle school), his bus route included middle and high school. The middle schoolers were supposed to be kept separated from the high schoolers.

One evening, I noticed ds wincing when something touched his chest. I asked him what happened and he told me there was a tenth grader who had been giving him a "hard time." I asked him to pull his shirt up and was horrified and shocked to see multiple bruises. This kid who was almost 5 years older and outweighed my child by 50 lbs, had been "titty twisting" my son. I was LIVID. I wanted to call the police but JM wanted to give the school an opportunity to handle it. When I asked the middle school principal what was being done, he tried to tell me the other boy's discipline was confidential.

Oh, hell no, he did not just say that.

So I called the high school assistant principal, who had been there with my older son and was a great educator and leader. I asked if he was handling the bus incident involving the tenth grader and he said he was. I asked if he realized the other child involved was C's brother. (They have different last names) He said he hadn't realized it, and promised they would handle it. I said, "I realize you can't really give me any info because of confidentiality, which, by the way is BS. But you can listen to me and you can relay a message to that boy and his parents. I want you to tell them that the only reason I didn't call the police and file assault charges is because my husband overruled me. But if that kid lays a hand or any other body part on my child, or if he even looks at him wrong, I will call the police first and THEN notify you. Are we clear?"

He said he understood and would feel the same way if it was his child.

And he ended up telling me that the kid was permanently barred from riding the school bus. He ended up dropping out later that year. DS has not had any other problems since. And I promise I would have no problem following through with filing charges against that kid or any other kid who attacks or assaults my kid.

I know there is a time and place to let our kids grow up and handle things but when it comes to bullying I have ZERO tolerance.

H... That's awful. I'm glad you got it taken care of....

I'm thinking now, that since DS's school lets out 2 hours after ours... I might just meet him there and go in to talk to someone with him... So he doesn't have to do it alone.

Update...

The bullies on the bus have been vanquished...

And the bus route isn't changed... it was just a one time, emergency type thing, so it was back to the original short bus trip today.
