My H and I did not serve, but we understand the sacrifices of those that do. From everything to leaving friends and family, to risking their lives to help people in other nations have the opportunity to have the same freedoms we are allowed.
As many who know me here are aware, we love animals, and had a houseful up until about 2 years ago when we had two of our older dogs, and my sweet Mo cat pass away all in a matter of months. We don't want to get another dog because our kids will soon be launching into the world, and if we want to take off to go fish, or visit my parents in FL we won't have to find sitters for the herd.
We registered for a program called Dogs on Deployment, and it basically is a foster program for soldiers dogs while they are deployed. We have had several potential fosters since signing up, but none fit, didn't get along with other dogs, or cats, or had health issues.
Yesterday we got a call, and it seemed all to fit together. A little over a year old Black Lab mutt, who is crate trained, and high energy, perfect fit for our Lucy the Lab. We brought him home, worried our cat would be an issue, she is such a badass, that she quickly put him in his place. So for the next 9 months or so we will be fostering this young rambunctious, character.
He's sweet, and full of goofy, lab love. I hope we can give him a good home until his Dad comes back.

OH Jo this cat is something else. She is 9 pounds of black fury.
When we got her from the rescue, she was tiny at 6 months old thus the name, Minnie. HOWEVER....She is the toughest, meanest, badass of a cat I have ever had. She caught a mouse within 24 hours of moving in!!!
Anyway this pup is a big goof. He still has floppy feet and poor body control, so he is a bit of physical comedian. I am anxious to get home, and play with him.

They both sound so sweet. I'm partial to black cats.

This sounds sooo cool. I need to check this out.
I might join you.
Thank you for your service. I know I used to worry about my dog when we vacationed- having a good sitter was such a blessing.
