As a children's librarian, please, p lease, read books that have become movies to your kids...While The Polar Express is visually gorgeous and wonderfully exciting cinema, it just isn't the same story as the book. And damn! OZ was NOT just a figment of Dorothy's imagination!!
Me-BS-71 in May HIM-SAFWH-74 I just wanted a normal life.Normal trauma would have been appreciated.

I love Good Night Moon... My kids love Good Night Moon... I still read it to my 7 and 6 year olds... My 3 year old still can;t get enough of it...

Mr. Pines Mixed up Signs was my favorite as a kid and I actually still have the book.

It worked out, I ended up reading a lot on my own as a kid. We read together as a family every night here.
scardeyKat, I think g_r has been wandering around with that book, I didn't realize it was a movie.

Broken, my daughter has just discovered Good Night Gorilla! I read it to her a few nights ago, then last night she was looking everywhere for "the monkey book." I finally figured out WHICH monkey book she was talking about and we had a great time talking about the silly gorilla and all the silly animals.

Def Good Night Moon, If You Give A Cat A Cupcake, Anything Dr Seuss or Eric Carle, the kids - my 2 yr old twins LOVE to read those to me, they have them memorized! Some others are the 10 Little Lady Bugs, or Goodnight Sweet Butterflies, where the plastic bugs are popping out of the cover, I forget the author.
My 7 yr old loves Junie B Jones so cute and funny! I encourage Judy Blume too since I LOVED her as a kid!

Broken, my daughter has just discovered Good Night Gorilla! I read it to her a few nights ago, then last night she was looking everywhere for "the monkey book." I finally figured out WHICH monkey book she was talking about and we had a great time talking about the silly gorilla and all the silly animals.
My son Opens his eyes so wide when the lights are off and you see the wife's eyeballs...
He always says:
"huh??...ugh, oh... the silly animals followed the zoo keeper again..."
I just love that about that book... they make up their own story...

Our boys are 4 and 6. We do a really cool thing at bedtime - each of us picks a book.
My younger boy LOVES the book "Big Fuzzy" (about a polar bear), and picks it every night. Sometimes his brother chooses it first, just to annoy him, and Big Drama ensues. 
DS6 sometimes picks the Hot Wheels phonics books we got him, sometimes "Five Little Dinosaurs" (who jump on the bed... the boys think it's hilarious because they're dinos instead of monkeys). They cried when we had to return it to the library, and I think it's out of print, so we had to go on Amazon.com and get a truly beat-up copy. They don't care.
My parents (who currently live 1500 miles away) sent them a book about the birth of Jesus last week, and it's a "recorded book," in which Nana and Papa took turns reading and recording each page. The boys LOVE LOVE LOVE this because Nana and Papa are "reading" are reading a bedtime story to them.
W & I like "Llamas in Pajamas." I usually choose "Daddy Kisses," "Daddy Hugs," or "The Day We Met You" (which is about adoption; my boys are adopted). If they've been fighting and bickering all day, they get "Words Are Not for Hurting."
