Sorry you missed that opportunity but there will be more. Like others have said, practice talking to random men here or there, in just a friendly type of way. If there is any interest on the other end, it honestly doesn't matter what you say....just eye contact and a smile will open many guys up...
Some opening lines for you at the store for you...

2. Uh oh,.....(said with a smile and a glance at the object)
3. Are we celebrating?
4. Oh cute...that is an interesting name for a bottle of.....
And hey, right after the split of me and WS, I also had trouble with eye contact with guys that I was attracted to. In fact, there had been a cop following me around the library and trying to catch my eye (he was drop dead gorgeous) and I remember I couldn't even look at him until he had his head turned, then I got my book and left so quickly I am sure he thought I was either a social moron or someone he perhaps should be running plates on.....
Practice, practice, practice. That was when I realized I needed to start talking to strangers again....
