My SO and I rarely talk in the phone. We text random things throughout the day. We rarely converse via texts. We always talk face to face. It's the best route for two majorly sarcastic people like us. 
Failure is success if we learn from it.

@PA, I am an optimist as well. I know there is someone out there with my preferences, I just hate weeding thru the garbage. I mean I had the guy who left me at a hockey game, the guy who was asking if he could come on my vacation with me after we had just me and now this. Yes, the garbage. 
@WB- I think that some do hide behind and text. If I had someone that did not want to talk on the phone, then I would ask them to talk in person. True intimacy is created...mostly in person; and well the "other" kind of intimacy too!
