I like the old Sherlock Holmes with Jeremy Brett. It was on in the 70's and I couldn't get enough at the time.

And of course Monty Python's Flying Circus and Benny Hill.

I would so much rather watch British produced programming. The filming is superior and the characters less plasticized looking. Downton , Call the Midwives, Foleys War, Midsomer Murders, House of Cards, .....they're all terrific.

GabyBaby - thanks fro the list and comments. I'll add

The Hour - fantastic

Upstairs, Downstairs - some trigger capability, though

There's a series about 3-4 ex-police detectives brought out of retirement to give a job to a disgraced detective (blonde woman, drives a Saab convertible, IIRC) investigating cold cases - can't think of the name.

The Thomas Lynley series

Absolutely LOVE Midsomer Murders - such a wonderful series!

If you like that (Brit murder mysteries), try Rosemary and Thyme. It's available on Netflix also. Very fun (for a murder mystery series)

I'm done here; sick of 2 x 4s

I'm a brit and would be glad to share my resources for gathering and watching brit TV old, new and live. Brit TV heaven. PM me

Other "little gems";

Stella - comedy drama about a struggling single mum.

Being Eileen - Lapland (that's on Youtube)There's also a series.

Cracker - An oldie about an alcoholic, gambling addicted police psychologist. Robbie Coltrane.

Inspector Morse - preceded Inspector Lewis.

Doc Martin. My fave, it used to be home.

Wycliffe - Local detective type stuff.

Uncle - Not for kids, according to taste. Comedy about a deadbeat uncle, an OCD kid and a mum in recovery.

Panorama and Horizon - documentaries.

Dolphins - Spy in the pod. Two part documentary studying dolphins using spy cameras. Fanflippingtastic. Could watch it over and over.

Look out for Vicar of Dibley specials, including one with the delicious Mr Depp (swoon)

Enjoy! :)

If you like Holly Oaks, you might also like Coronation Street, Emmerdale and or Eastenders.

Coronation Street has been running the 60's, Emmerdale since the 70's. I grew up with some of the characters.

Last Tango in Halifax-

I love this- it's a drama/comedy about childhood sweethearts who find each other (on facebook with help of grandsons) and re-marry- in their 70s...might sound daft but it's amazing. Both series can be found on YouTube I think.

I also hope you can get Silent Witness- I love it. Oh and Law and Order UK.

I'm another who recommends I.T. Crowd too.

Oh and The Fall with Gillian Anderson- that was good.

The Bletchley Circle was good too.

I was trying to think what I had/have on my series link on Sky.

Can you get any of our soaps? Eastenders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale? That's proper English telly!!

I use to follow the Jackson storyline from Emmerdale on YouTube years ago and I'm gonna check out Eastenders on BBC America.
