As relationships carry such weight in our lives, I believe it is important to really stop to consider not only what makes for a good relationship, but what makes for a bad or catastrophic relationship.

If I only had the wisdom I possess today, 40 years ago, I would not have married my FWS.

There were warning signs, but ultimately, due in part to hope and love, I ignored the warning signs and paid the price much later.

Now that I am pastoring a church, I think it best to try to talk someone out of a marriage as opposed to simply smile and congratulate them on their future nuptials. In other words, try to get them tom examine all the things in their relationship that could potentially lead to the doom of their marriage.

It is also important, after a marriage, to examine the good and bad and take steps to resolve the impediments to a happy, healthy relationship.

I don't think couples discuss this much.

If you are absent during my struggles, don't expect to be present in my success.
