Wildabouttrial said the closing argument was good. I am at work and missed most of it! What is the consensus?

I dunno DI, missed it too.
It's officially been turned over to the jury.

NURMI's was good??
Not from what I've seen. The Walmart comment was insane. He went on and on about things that JA said as if those things were real evidence.

Bert n Ernie's wasn't very good, he was saying use common sense. He played the phone sex tape, ridiculous. I feel he probably really turned the jurors off with that.
Mr. Martinez's rebuttal was awesome. Bert n Ernie kept objecting, overruled everytime. Mr. Martinez was so cool, calm relaxed.
I think it is hitting home to Jodi right at this minute. I thought she was going to fall apart right when the judge was giving the jury instructions.
I would be so upset if I was juror #10, #15 adn #17. They are the alternates. They have to come on Monday, but sit in a separate room. My husband thinks they get to hear the deliberations somehow. I think they don't hear. Maybe you can answer that question for us, solus?

He played the phone sex tape
Aaaaand who is shocked? He cannot get off that angle.
Cheese and crackers. Surely to God he could have taken a different approach.
I really don't care about a couple's intimate relationship. Doesn't give a person a right to decapitate them. Oh, and inflict, "Small superficial" wounds. Can you believe he said that!?
So defensive wounds on the hands, arms, back, legs, and head are "superficial". Nice.
Something Martinez said, "She killed him three times over."
.The stab to the heart would have killed him.
.The neck injury would have killed him.
.The bullet would have killed him.
She killed him three times over.
Yeah, that was totally self defense.

I knew it wasn't self defense when I heard the list of wounds TA had. You do NOT inflict that kind of damage defending yourself.
My personal verdict: she's dead meat.

When I was a juror in January, we had 2 alternates. When it got to us, the judge gave the alternates different instructions. We all went back to the jury room and then they were dismissed. We were not allowed to discuss until they were gone. They left, we started. We ended up having to call on one because on the second day of deliberations, one of the jurors was sick and couldn't continue. We basically then started over deliberating.

JA has suddenly lost all of her snarkiness and has stopped smirking. She has a look on her face like she just now realizes that she is never going to see the light of day again.

Just got home, am watching it now, starting on Juan's rebuttal. First of all, I love him dropping those F bombs like he owns them. Nurmi is having a hissy fit, and we're not even 10 minutes into the rebuttal. This should be good!

Nancy Grace just played back the testimony where JA testified she took it back to the SAME Walmart.
Ut-oh!!!!

My sister and I have both been obsessed with this trial. And one thing has bugged us about it.
What was the real motive?
In the beginning I believed it was the Cancun trip, but after I got into the details of the case and listened to testimony, friends, etc; I knew it was something else.
That email between the two of them, the fight where he tells her how she "betrayed him in the worst way" to me was a hint about what happened.
And it always bothered me how she just conveniently had all of those phone sex conversations between them taped. Why would SHE have these tapes (she testified he was the one who wanted them)? And remember when he was saying the stuff about her being a 12yo girl? JS would say, "what?" and make him repeat it? To me it seemed like she was setting him up.
We don't know what was talked about before she hit that "record" button. She could have completely set him up to say all of that stuff on the phone and had that recorder ready.
TA was obviously not very experienced in the sex department. And I can see how an inexperienced man could get very swept away by a sexual predator. We heard him time and time again say on tape, "I never did that b4 you." or "you introduced me to that."
So anyway, my sister called me last night (this am) at 1:00 and says, "I figured it out!!" (the motive)
She thinks that JA originally made those sex tapes to blackmail TA. She played them back to him. That is what the angry email was about. That is what the "you have betrayed me in the worst way" is referring to. But it backfired. And he threatened to expose HER. Worst thing you can do to a psychopath. So two days later she steals the gun from her grandparents house.
I think when she got to his house she was still in manipulation mode. She was trying to get him to come back to her AND take her to Cancun.
I also think that last shot of him in the shower is him either seeing the gun or the knife. That look on his face is a look unlike any other look I have seen in any other of his photos. It is an angry and frightened look. I think she wanted to capture that image and keep it forever.
Psychopaths can not tolerate abandonment. If they sense that someone is about to leave them, they will go to EXTREME measures to stop this from happening and or manipulate the situation into, "No, I broke up with him/her because he/she was abusive."
Did you notice how every time Juan Martinez said in his closing that TA was "done with JA" or he had grown tired of her" she would suddenly shark eye him and shake her head "no" ?
That's what I'm talking about.

Interesting sadtoo. I could see that.

I have always thought that. That image gives me goosebumps every time I see it and I have to look away. I totally believe in that moment he knew it was over.
JA testified she took it back to the SAME Walmart.
Yeah, ain't it great!?

The other thing I think is during the 55 minutes of deliberations on Friday, the jury they probably took their initial vote and realized they had a verdict. But thought rather than come out and announce it, decided to go home for the weekend and wait to announce it on Monday.
Just a prediction.

I actually think this too :) Either that or they took an initial vote, are close & will announce their verdict right after lunch tomorrow. I truly don't think it will take very long, but as the Casey Anthony trial taught me, I've been VERY wrong before!!

Sadtoo, I agree with you about the last photo of him alive...I see fear/anger in that shot too..noticed it the first time I saw the photo.
And your theory makes sense, a LOT of sense. He used the word BETRAY. We've heard of her being a liar, a manipulator and a ton of other not-so-flattering adjectives, but a betrayer was not one that was discussed. Those tapes would have devastated him had she leaked them....that is betrayal. (but it does beg to question, why did he have sex with her and take "naughty pics" after she arrived at his home unannounced).
After OJ and Casey Anthony, I won't believe it until I actually hear "guilty of Murder One...and hopefully they will agree that it is of the CRUEL category". Death or life in prison (without parole)...both will be fitting. I'd be nice to see her narcissistic ass in jail as her hair greys, and her skin wrinkles and she will know she's no longer the hot thing she believes she is.
I feel so sorry for his family and friends.

DI, I signed up for WAT, too. Thanks so much for letting us know about that.
Does anyone know how long into the night they will deliberate? Do they just keep going as long as they want to? Must they leave when everyone else in the courthouse leaves for the day?
sadtoo, your sister I think has some very good perspectives there. It does seem to make sense. Unfortunately, mostly we can only speculate about all that, but I do think she has an excellent theory.

On Friday they gave the Judge their deliberation schedule and it was Monday - Friday, 9:00am-4:30pm. I've got to admit, I'm getting a little nervous that we haven't heard a peep yet today but trying to reign myself in
When they reach their verdict, they'll let the bailiff know, who lets the Judge know & I believe the attorney & families are given 1 hour notice, so I'm starting to think we won't get a verdict today. With that said, if they are close to reaching a verdict or say filling out the forms at 4:25, I can see them asking to go a little longer so they can close this part out.
