@Ascendant - Did you actually OWN one of those? If so... then you are a spoiled, spoiled brat.

Dude- I totally did. And I was. I even had one of these:...but always wanted one of these:

And these:

Ahhhh....so many blasts from the past!

@Lucky2HaveMe: I LOVED Liddle Kiddles, too; remember they had a scent?

I also remember being super-envious of someone who had one of those dipping flowers kit.

@kernel - Yep! We did that too. I think that was actually more my brother than me.

For me, at least from ~3 to ~ 5 or 6, it was paper dolls. Some of my favorites (and by that, I mean I remember these specific outfits!)

Oh, and Colorforms too!

And don't forget:

I had a tiny pink purse with handles and clear plastic sides for mine that they fit in perfectly. And we played with them all the time. Up through about 4th grade, that's all any of us girls did when we had free time. Everyone had a jack set.

Funny, isn't it, how many of the same toys those of us about the same age shared? I was also reading that the toys from the 70s are about the most popular... a large number of them are still sold today in some form or another.

What a great thread! I too had...

-clackers (a lawsuit waiting to happen. lol)

-string art

-spin art

-paint by number

-paper dolls

-fashion plates (eta: I think my KIDS had those; not me. lol)

-a tape recorder

-jacks

and more. I also had...

-Breyer horses

-a plastic child size musical organ (I used to pretend I was in the Partridge family)

-not a toy but an oil painting of a creepy clown hanging in my bedroom (guess that was a 60s/70s thing. )

I'm sure there's more but does anyone remember cutting a 45 record off the back of a cereal box that would actually play on your record player?

@mom of 2 -

You mean like:

Absolutely. The one above is one of the ones I remember us getting. Honeycombs were not one of our favorite cereals, but we wanted the record!

Sheesh - cereal box prizes could be it's own thread! When I was looking for the above picture, I found:

I had several of these. What could be cooler? As I remember, those came in GOOD (from a child's viewpoint, anyway) cereals. This one shows Super Sugar Crisp, which was always a good choice.

Cereals today have no good prizes in them anymore. Good from parents' point of view, but some of the coolest stuff came in those boxes back then. It always caused a dilemma when shopping though - weighing which was the best prize against whether or not we would be able to convince mom we really would eat that cereal and it wasn't just about the prize. And knowing that we WOULD be eating that cereal if we got it. There were times we suffered through some stuff we really didn't like.

Oh, and then there was the ritual of sticking your hand down in the box without spilling the cereal everywhere to find the prize! That was the one problem with the records - you had to wait until the cereal was all gone!

I love this thread! So many great memories.

There was this book I loved when I was little. It was a chunky book for little kids. It was a house that showed all the seasons through one of those windows. I tried finding it when DD was tiny, but had no luck. Maybe I'll find it by the time I have grandkids.

OMG HOLLY HOBBY!!!!

My ROOM was Holly Hobby. Wallpaper, sheets, blankets, comforter...

I loved Holly Hobby.

And strawberry shortcake. I used to have epic tantrums when I would ask for my room to be "redone" from Holly to Strawberry and back again. Can you believe my mother said "NO!"???
