The thing is, I hate buying books. I hardly ever do, unless it's a self-help book, but novels, I always go to the library.

I'm looking at some authors that I usually check out and they're all in the $12 range.

What do people download from Kindle if they're quick readers? Do you pay each time you want to read a book? What's free?

I don't mind paying occasionally but I really don't want to spend that much money on books.

Tell me all your Kindle secrets!

DS, you are forever in my heart. Thank you for sharing your beautiful spirit with me. I will always try to live by the example you have set. I love you and miss you every day and am sorry you had to go so soon, it just doesn't seem fair.

Yay...welcome to the Kindle club!!!!

Yes, you pay each time. You don't pay a monthly data fee. I think at Amazon.com you can browse for free or really cheap books.

If you are on FB, you can "like" the Kindle and you get info when books get released for free. I've done that a few times.

Supposedly, Kindle is going to have a borrowing app soon so that you can read friend's books--keep them for two weeks.

13 years later...finally healed. Definitely survived and thrived and you can, too.

If you're on facebook, go find "pixel of ink" and like them (or friend them or join). This is basically a blog that lists free kindle books. Many are from authors you may not know, and others are known authors and books that are free for a limited time. If you go on the Amazon website and read discussions, you can find some other blogs that daily list free kindle books.

I beleive the borrowing option is now available. i have a kindle and got an email, but since none of my friends have one, i didn't pay much attention to the email about the borrowing feature.

Good luck! Enjoy!

The free Kindle books is worth keeping an eye on. They are not bestsellers, but they do have several classics. The list changes periodically so it is worth checking out.

I finally gave in and bought a Kindle for Christmas and now I don't know why I resisted it for so long.

Will have to look into pixel of ink...

Definitely worth checking out. Sometimes the books I may not have chosen turn out to be the best ones.

I am also a Kindle girl and just discovered that Amazon now has a lending policy. You can loan a book, one time, for a period of two weeks. It says that not all books are lendable...but I would think that plenty are. Definitely worth looking into.

You can put text files on a Kindle, can't you? So every classic on the planet can be brought in from something like Project Gutenberg, perfectly legally.

It nagged him, in particular, that none of the girls he’d known so far had given him a sense of unalloyed triumph.

Going to have to get that one myself!

I love the selection of free books. I've downloaded lots of classics, but also many current chick lit books. I've enjoyed almost everything I've read on my Kindle and only paid for one book.

I love my Kindle but I still get lots of books from the library too.

Actually my latest guilty pleasure is the interactive scrabble on Kindle. WIT and I play it all the time.

Alot of times Amazon gets you hooked with the first book in a series for free then you "have" to get the rest...LOL...

I will look at pixel of ink

I rarely pay for a book on Kindle, there are so many free ones.

When you browse Kindle books at Amazon.com, browse from lowest price first and the free ones come up. On your kindle, it will allow you to shop for the free Kindle content.

Old books like Jane Austen, Dickens, etc. are free.

Kindle is great at the beach - no glare, just put it in a ziplock baggie to protect it from sand and water.

Enjoy.
