Not debating which system it better, just wondering how much music people have in their collection.

We are at about 3,600 songs on the ipod. Only a small portion of which is something I did not download/buy myself. Much of it was the CD collection from back in the day.

Just curious where we might be on this spectrum.

I have almost 4,000 songs on the computer. There are about 200 of them on my phone to listen to when I'm out... Yeah, like you guys, a lot of ours originally came from CDs (borrowed from each of my parents' CD collections, plus my own). Lately more and more from the Apple Store because not enough room for physical CDs. Which is kinda sad.

Not sure how to even count. 8GB player will not even hold all the metal. Then there is the classical stuff, and God forbid I should start digging into the cassettes and Vinyl.

8GB? Geez...

Remember when 8GB was huge? How in the hell were you going to fill that up? Now we have 160GB or so to mess with...

None.

I am a radio and cd kind of gal still. But dd just got a new phone and really wanted the 32g because the 16 wasn't enough room for her massive music collection. When I pointed out she didn't need to keep transferring the High School Musical and Hilary Duff files that we put on her first Ipod ever she gave me the look. So apparently storage for things she never listens to is a big deal

Cassettes... I miss my cassette collection. Seemed like back then music was something a lot more shared. One cassette player, everyone in the room listening to it instead of on the iPod or Android or whatever. Or maybe our Walkmans just didn't have enough batteries. Hehe.

Right, cuz we like to go cross country jogging across the whole country, and never hear a repeat.

I only bought an iPod to be able to use a couple of apps with Apple people. My old Creative Zen actually had an SD card slot in addition to the 8GB.

Ahhh, the old boom boxes, where you could go to the corner of an establishment and drown out the crap the DJ was playing by bringing your own music. Yes, I have done this.

I'm with the radio, CD and cassette group.

If there's someone I like, I buy the CD and listen to it in my car until the next favorite comes along. And every once in awhile I'll pop in an old 80s CD.

DS bought me an ipod a few years ago and it sits in my drawer. Now I have the iphone and I use it to stream the local radio station. It frustrates my kids that I don't use this technology!

Anyway...I wish I still had my Billy Joel and Journey 8 tracks.

DS, you are forever in my heart. Thank you for sharing your beautiful spirit with me. I will always try to live by the example you have set. I love you and miss you every day and am sorry you had to go so soon, it just doesn't seem fair.

I have 782 songs on an old 8GB Ipod. It's an older generation, but I love it.

I went through a long period prior to MP3 players were I could barely afford to put gas in the car. That's when gas was $1.35. So it was either buy a CD or make it to work and school.

Otherwise I would have filled up that 8BG a long time ago with CD collections. I usually love the songs that aren't released to radio more than the ones that are.

Anyway, I listen to just about everything now: radio, iTunes, and Pandora. I like Pandora because it's free and I can check out artists without having to buy anything first.

On my MP3 player (16GB) I have close to 1000 songs and have used less than half the storage. Most are from CDs but I have a lot from the Zune Marketplace.

As far as on CDs, I have NO idea. I'm not even 100% sure how many I have but I think an in-the-ballpark estimate song count would be 3000 to 4000.

On albums (actual vinyl) I probably have 200 to 300. 45s, over 300.

Not sure of the count but I think it's around 3,500, many different genres. I also like radio and Pandora. Heck, I just like music.

The more important question: how many of your songs have you actually listened to?

Somewhere around 10,000 on computer and external hard drive.

Another 200-250 cd's.

How many have I listened to, probably 9,000.

I like the radio and CD's as well. I also love pandora.

As for boomboxes...I have my old one from high school still stashed away in my basement. I don't think I have any cassettes anymore, but I just can't let it go.

Radio here, some CD's. Still have albums and the turntable still works.

Cassettes.. got a bunch of them.

AN - I think I have your 8 tracks. I have a box of them in a closet. Nothing to play them with...but I have them.

One day I will purge, it's not today.

How many of my songs have I listened to? I'd guess at least 80%. All of the 45s for sure. Have a turntable that works too. Picked it up at a thrift store for $12. It had the needle too (tough to find these days). To give an idea of how old it is, it has dual cassette and 8-track. I didn't really care about those though as long as the turntable worked. One of these days, I'm going to have to set it up again...

I've listened to every song on the Ipod. Most of them more than once. There are a few that I've deleted too.

I listen to the radio too, mostly in the car. But at home, we got rid of our players, so the only thing left to listen to stuff is the Bose player.
