I adopted my husky. I didn't know she was going to end up mine. Ex-shat had been wearing me down about a dog ever since we met. But we were never in a dog friendly place...his work caused him to travel...I wasn't interested in taking care of animals. Finally, after my son was born and I was staying home, I gave him the green light to find a dog. Of course he wanted a puppy from some backyard breeder puppy mill...I couldn't stomach that, so I found this great northern breed rescue...showed him the pics of all the beautiful dogs and he latched onto Lie-Lie. He had to have her. So, being the good little codependent wife I was, I dropped everything and made it happen.
Even though I took care of all the vetting, all the training, feeding, excercising, spoiling...ex-shat always thought of her as his dog. There were a couple of times that she got loose and if you are familar with northern breeds you know that they don't have a sense of territory. Ex-shat would take her running away as a personal slight against him, as if she was doing it on purpose...as if she was disloyal to the pack. (I know, the irony, right?) Both times he went out looking for her...the first time he found her, he beat her. The second time she ran when she saw him and I ended up with her...he wanted to beat her again but I wouldn't let him. She's a husky for god's sake, running is what she does.
I'm glad that he didn't get her. She deserves to live out the rest of her days in a peaceful, stable home. She deserves a great big back yard where the squirrels, chipmunks, mice, rabbits and possums had better beware.
I'm posting this in NB because I realized that she is getting an NB of her own. She doesn't have to slink away and hide when she hears raised voices (When ex-shat and I would fight, she would go hide). She gets to travel with me everywhere these days. This summer, while Teslet is on vacation with his dad, the pup and I are going camping and hiking. Her time with me will outlast my time in my marriage. It will also be much more satisfying and fulfilling.
Happy adoption anniversary, Lie-Lie:)

Lie-Lie is so beautiful. I'm glad she's with you.

I cant believe he beat her, what an ass-hat. You and Teslet are so much better off without that dick.

^^^This^^^ makes me wonder if the need for validation from pets is a symptom of a wayward. Mine was the same, took it as a personal affront if our dogs (now my dogs) didnt show over-excitement at 'missing' him when he was away.

So glad Lie-Lie found you.

Dogs are sometimes smarter than humans. They tend to gravitate to people who they know will care for them.

I feel like dogs are the perfect counterbalance for the codependent - they actually do appreciate us.
I'm so glad you and Lie-Lie found one another.

Adopting a pup is the best thing I have done recently. I know he is a "Divorce Dog", but I love his presence, especially when the kids are gone.
Sounds like a great dog! You are both lucky!

I've been thinking since I posted that I actually bought the bullshit that lielie was his dog. I did everything for that animal but in my head I always referred to her as ex-shat's. How fucked up is that?
Funny story: I trained her to stay off furniture and to not jump the baby gates. When I would go away to my parents' for a few days, ex-shat would try to get her to sleep in bed or to jump the gates. She never would. She would just sit and look at him and then go into her kennel
I completely forgot about that.

Omg Tesla, she is SO pretty!! So glad you have her, but still sad he took the other dog. FTG.
I'm so glad I kept the dog XWH thought of as HIS. I told him he was too effing crazy for me to trust him with our ridgeback.
Which was certainly true....

She is absolutely beautiful! It makes me miss my dog all the more
I had to rehome my dog when we separated because I moved in with my parents and they don't care for dogs and have a fence. Exwh wouldn't keep the dog for the sake of the kids. He actually said that one of the pros for leaving me for mow would be to get away from my dog.

What a beautiful dog! Thank you for sharing the pics. The one of the two of you is great.....you two go together like peas & carrots.
t/j - I've begun looking for a new GSD female to take over the empty doggy space in my life. My girl died on Valentine' Day, and I really miss having a good dog. You photos have inspired me to double up on my efforts in that direction. Wish me luck! end t/j

you are both just as pretty and cute as could be. i love how single and relaxed you look. you look like the kind of chic i'd like to laugh over a beer or two with. i love this adoptiversary post.
i think about my pup's "new beginning" too! i got my giant dog in the divorce. he was asshat's, rescued as puppy, but XH had no where to keep a dog, and never gave "dog support" or came and helped care for him like he promised he would. like you, i never would have gotten a dog on my own. at first, i was overwhelmed with just too many things and creatures to care for. i investigated rehoming him out of guilt for how little positive attention he was getting.
then peterpan came along. roscoe loved him up and now it's impossible to imagine him being anything other than our awesome family dog. he's H's buddy now (which i'm sure devastates the replaced XH)and he gets walks, attention, runs, frisbee, roadtrips, bed snuggles and first class love and care. it's even DD4s job now to feed him. i'm SO glad i got him and kept him.
my big big boy (fixed but he'd make a great date for lie lie, lol.):
and tesla - lie lie, really? who named her? first of all it's very pretty...but i couldn't help but think how symbolic it is given your FT's affinity for lying his ass off. i snorted when i read it actually. we kept the name the rescue had for our dog.

I love this post too and hey you are a beautiful woman! Thanks for the pics, it is so nice to have a lovely face to put with your kindnesses here.
I used to get the dogs all excited when he pulled up and let them out to greet him. He thought it was his presence. Yeah, after I said go get him!
He too tried many times to take my babies and all I had to do was say to them "Stay with Mama" and they came running to hide behind me. Heh.
