Okay peeps, long time no see.

I am preparing a trip to Orlando and I was wondering what I should do while there.

We are already doing Universal, a Blue Man Group show and Sea World.

Anyone ever checked out the Holy Land Experience and have any thoughts on it?

Thank you very much.

I'm not far from there, have never been. My kids have gone with their youth group. I'll ask them and get back to you.

Downtown Disney is great... and free (unless you buy stuff) Parking is free, entry is free... you can walk all around and look and eat and shop.

The Orlando Science Center downtown is pretty good.

Clearwater... all one word.

There is an aquarium in Tampa area that's awesome...

Clearwater Beach is lovely....

and for Thrills you can't beat Busch Gardens... which would be on the way to Tampa/Clearwater area.

Aquarium, that sounds right up my alley, something in doors away from the heat.

i grew up nearby and go to melbourne/cocoa beach regularly to see the family. peterpan is the happiest inlaw ever...as a skydiver, he had to take both myself and DD4 to ifly, indoor skydiving. now we try to go before our return flight every time.

DD was 3 her first time. she was like a little packing peanut in the wind tunnel. she LOVES it.

you buy "minutes" in the tunnel and the whole thing takes about 1-2 hours. book in advance. it's not the cheapest but it's so freakin' fun.

it's right next to Wet n Wild...a really fun water park independent of the other big theme parks.

Clearwater is very pretty and relaxing.

today it is 88 degrees here.. Hotter than normal. This time of year we are usually near the lower 80's. Near the beach will be a bit cooler..due to beach breezes.

There is also Tarpon Springs nearby.

Well, according to my brother, no trip to the Orlando area is complete without a trip to Manny's Original Chophouse (actually in Haines City, so not too far from Orlando, but not in the immediate area). And preferably 3 or 4. Possibly everyday. (Sigh!)

My DH is still a little bitter about this. We got married at Disney, and the night before the wedding, nothing would do but we eat at Manny's. And we waited 2 hours for the privilege to do so (partly because we had a group of 10). And some of them got ribs... and we were having barbeque from Whispering Canyon at the Wilderness Lodge for our lunch after the wedding.

In all seriousness, the food is good (their house salad is GREAT!) and fairly cheap. But not when we have to wait forever (which we often do with the size of group we usually have). And DH and I can't figure out how it became the "must go there" destination. Especially when we usually end up spending 5 - 6 hours or more between the drive there and back, the wait to get a table, and eating.

We'd rather be back at the hotel/house/whatever in the hot tub!

I've never heard of Manny's... But I probably won't be making the 90 minute drive to Haines City to check it out either...

If you're going to Seaworld, then do not go to the Florida Aquarium or vice versa. How many fish do you want to see on one trip? Also, Clearwater has the Clearwater Marine Aquarium where Winter the dolphin lives.

If you're going to Seaworld and Busch Gardens, look into getting a two park pass. It's much cheaper.

We live in Tampa, but the Beast Brood loves going to Clearwater for dinner. And we go to Orlando frequently. You might even want to look at staying in Tampa since it's centrally located to your plans.

This post brought to you by the Greater Tampa Tourism Board.

I thought I'd be more awesome.

Bass Pro Shop? Never heard of it...

Just kidding!!!

If you've never been to an IKEA and shopping is your thing there's one right across the highway from the Holy Land Experience.

Right near the Millennium Mall.

Just have to add that the only thing on ds14's Must Do list is to go back to the used book store at the mall we went to last time we went. The boy (then 12) spent every penny if his spending $ on military history books.
