Ok, so I went a little crazy (for me) and let the stylist have a little more freedom than I should have. Not blaming her - I should have been more direct and more specific. So, I have VERY blond highlights that I hate - some of them are just too chunky and I feel like a checkerboard. It's too much of a contrast to the darker reddish shade she put on the rest of my hair. So, first, would you go back to the same stylist to get it fixed? Second, does this really piss them off? I would be clear that it's not her fault - I'm just not happy with it at all. Third, what's the fix here? I'm thinking just new color over my whole head because I don't think toning down the highlights is going to do it. Opinions please!

Absolutely go back to the same stylist. I can't imagine a competent stylist getting upset because you changed your mind or want to tone down an effect.
I would think that since she did the color job, she'll know the best ways to adjust it.

I would go to the same stylist and just explain it's not that it's a bad job, just that it doesn't "fit" you...she should understand. I would be cautious of just throwing color over it, esp if she bleached the blonde b/c you'll still end up with "highlights" throughout your hair. I would recommend a Malibu before doing any color.

Oh, I would go back. I wouldn't be as nice about it either. I was pissed the 2 times that this happened. It looked cheap and tacky. Like a $50 dollar dye job instead of $150 one. I told the 2 different hair dressers that did this, that exact thing. One didn't fix it well, I stopped seeing her. The other apologized profusely, did a fabulous job fixing it, and didn't charge me. Guess which one is my hairdresser?! How they handle it will tell you whether they are worth keeping.

T/J My stylist charge $45 for a "Tri-Color" and it looks like a $150+ color. I tip her well (like usually $20 when I get a color done)

This just happened to my co-worker. She thought the very blond combined with the reddish shade made her hair look almost pink-y.
She went back and they were able to just put darker color over the excessive blond highlights.
It was no problem at all.

Retired hairstylist here, kernel. Yes, you should go back to the same stylist. She knows what was applied, so she would know best how to correct it to your satisfaction. If she's a reputable stylist, it won't piss her off in the least. Every good stylist wants happy clients.

I went back to the same salon today. Didn't get the same stylist because she couldn't get out of her driveway (yes, 18 f*$^*(#$g inches of snow). The owner helped me out with a glaze on top and a browner shade on the sides and in the back. All free and with a coupon for another glaze if the checkerboard starts to put in another appearance. She was great about it but took pictures to show the other stylist and let her know she screwed up. She agreed on the checkerboard look. It looks much better now, thank goodness. Thanks for the advice everyone!
