Even if it's close - Happy birthday!
I found several fora before I found SI, and none of them helped. Either moderation failed, or the basic principles were self-defeating. I actually got to SI because another forum criticized SI for giving support to WSes. (But how can a WS become an FWS without support?)
So thanks for setting up SI, and thanks especially for the way you set it up and for keeping it going.

June 12th was the official launch date we took SI live, but the 10th was the completion of all the beta testing and organizing of the site

MH and I used to belong to another on-line community, we received tremendous support and help during a very dark time for us. I became a Moderator as well for over a year there. The owner of the site felt it would be in his best interest to make it a pay site.
I tried to explain to him that most of the members could barely afford their mortgage payments, let alone pay to belong to a message board. The owner did not listen. MH, being a Web Developer, felt we could build a better on-line community and it would be our way giving back to those that came to our rescue in our time of need.
So,one night as MH and I were sitting here, I came up with the name, we registered it that night and we went forward with creating the site. We recurited a couple hundred members from the old site to help beta test and once that was completed, we launched SI on June 12, 2002 and my life has been a living hell ever since 
(I'm kidding!!..kinda of )
So that is in a nutshell how SI came to be. Since all those years ago, we've become an NPO recoginzed by the IRS, we've been featured in countless of magazines, online interview and membership participation with reporters. It's been a huge learning experience for us and a lifelong goal now to help those that need a soft place to land and share
