So I put Icy Hot on my hamstring because it's been sore forever.
My leg does feel a little better but, the smell! I'm literally making myself nauseous. I smell like a grandpa.
LD says he's not letting me sleep in the bed. I tried to wipe it off and I still smell!
Am I going to go to work tomorrow smelling like this?
DS, you are forever in my heart. Thank you for sharing your beautiful spirit with me. I will always try to live by the example you have set. I love you and miss you every day and am sorry you had to go so soon, it just doesn't seem fair.

yes, yes you are, and no one except me will want to sit next to you cause I love the smell of icy hot
....but oddly enough, not the smell of grandpas.
shower and use an oil based soap or even baby oil. that should get the smell off. if not, you can always start carrying silver dollars and hard candies and give them out to kids
try blue emu. dd and ds's both swear by it for strains, pulls and muscle aches. and no smelly smell.

I use tiger balm but it kinda smells too lol and stains. I grew up putting icy hot and bengay on my mom's back so I'm used to the smell.

Arnica gel is supposed to be great for bruises and sore muscles. It's supposed to smell 'herby' whatever that means. Someone online described it as smelling like chamomile (I don't know what that smells like.)

Thanks, everyone!
It actually does feel a lot better this morning but I think I will look for some of the other things you mentioned because of the smell.
Unfound, there is a certain candy that my kids call 'grandma candy' because it's the kind she always used to carry around in her purse.

Arnica works great without the weird smell.
Mini tootsie rolls work well to pass out, too.

Arnica is great. Weleda Arnica massage oil (health stores or amazon, in orange box) is simply a divine sensory experience, and has great pain and anti-inflammatory qualities. Exceptional for soft tissue soreness. And exceptional for massages.

Arnica (cream or gel) is almost odorless. I tried it on my wrist before my Dx of De Quervanes. Surprisingly, it did help some at first. As for the Icy Hot, I always did like the smell but admit it *is* a bit intense, even if you like the smell of wintergreen.

Arnica gel (Tiger Balm smells a bit more and works a bit less) works well and was the chiropractor who recommended it to me. Doesn't make seriously bad pain (like bulging discs) go away, but sure helps sore muscles...
Sorry it smells bad, shower, scrub, and hit it with cotton balls soaked in facial toner?
Good luck!

You might want to try Aspercreme. There is no smell and no burn.
I don't know how good or bad this stuff is for you but it works well for me.

Blu Emu helped my sore back, with no smell, there is also a Bue emu that smells kind of like candy?? not sure how to describe the smell.
I am going to have to try Arnica, never heard of it, but seeing as I use something on my back at least once a week, and many times more, it might just help

Thanks for all the suggestions.
It's depressing to me that I'm at a point in my life where I have to use a cream for muscle aches.

Biofreeze is the bomb. You may not be able to find it at the regular drugstore, may have to go to a spa to purchase it, but it has all the good stuff of icyhot, without the smell.
Glad you are better today.

I have recently rediscovered the joys of aspercreme. I like icyhot and don't mind the smell, but it essentially just fools your muscles' nerves into ignoring one pain (the strain) for another (the icyhot itself). Aspercreme actually gets aspirin into the injured area w/o having to take it my mouth.
And yes....I am with you on feeling old. I can't carry candy cause I'd eat it myself. None for the little kiddies!!!
