Painpaingoaway, they want it purely for cosmetic reasons - they think it will make them appear more attractive down there. I do think it's sad that a significant number of women are apparently worried about this. (In a perfect world, the only people who would be seeing your labia up close and personal are people you could trust to care enough about you to not be bothered by your labia being on the larger end of normal.)

Surgery is so painful! I can't imagine how hard it must be to pee for the week after!

I also think it's a waste of money and I am so shocked that people spend the money on it when there are so many other ways to improve oneself that will give you more bang for the buck. No pun intended.

You could probably get half a college degree with that money, a new car, travel around the world. It blows my mind that someone would actually pay good money to resize their labia when a simple turning out the lights will do if you feel that self conscious.

I can definitely be thrifty when it comes to labia.

I did peek at some of the google image pics, and yes, I do believe there are some situations that DO need surgery, poor things. But for your average everyday labia, damn, I'd be spending that money elsewhere further north. 😉

Besides Exposed, I have a close second in the names area. I can tell you that bleaching of the hiny hole is purely cosmetic, and is done primarily by wealthy women.

I can also say that the same set of nerves and tisssue are in the labia as in the rectum, and I know for a fact that most people report a hemmorhoidectomy as the most painful thing they have ever undergone. So I'm thinking I would pass on it just because of the pain level of recovery.

hemmorhoidectomy as the most painful thing they have ever undergone

TO THE HELL YESSSS!

I had all my kids naturally, surgeries, car accidents, etc, but that one ^^^ is absolutely, positively the most painful thing you can "elect" to do to yourself!

Jennifer- the prep of the colonoscopy is the worse part, just a LOT of toilet time! Afterwards you can just get up and go to MickeyD's!

Jennifer, don't sweat it. They don't do anything to your rectum, except use it as a doorway.

The prep is by far that worst of it. Before you start get some A&D ointment, or Desitin to coat and protect so you don't get a super sore bum. You will be nighty night when they slip that scope on in, and it's smaller than your index finger. So no sweat, lots bigger stuff comes out.

also if you have an upper GI and colonoscopy at the same time, make damn sure they do the upper GI first...I know I had to ask them which one was first...I'm still not sure I believe them...

Jennifer - the prep is the worst part, the procedure is nothing.

They give you this wonderful stuff called 'propafol' - you start counting backwards from 100 and by the time you hit 96 the next thing you know you're waking up and they're all smiling at you (come to think of it, were they supposed to be?? )

OMG

I love you all. You crack me up.

I have A&D (10 years old - left over from diaper days of DS). I have lots of books for the potty time LOL. And the kid is getting shipped off to grandpas so he won't be bored with mommy stuck in the bathroom.

I am having both ends invaded I had an UpperGI scope thingy 6 years ago and I'm overdue for a follow up (Barretts esoph) and I said well hell if you're knocking me out and I have to use a vacation day off work you may as well get it all done at once. To my surprise they said "okeedoke!" (why didn't they do that during my appendectomy when I asked them to take out my gallbladder while they were in there? didn't I have to have that out a few years later???)

I can imagine how bad a labiaplasty feels - nicked a piece once with a razor - last time a razor went near there

I knew someone who had a preference for a certain type of labia majora and labia minora which turned out to be similar to a Barbie doll. The way he expressed it would definitely make the women he was with feel insecure and inadequate because what he was looking for was very rare, especially in women past the age of puberty. Made me sick.

I see so many people that are all "zomg shaved vag makes you look pre-pubescent" but the more important change in that region that puberty brings is the shape and coloration of the labia. So, a guy who dislikes pubic hair on women is a git, but he is at least talking about a transitory thing, hair can come or go. But one who dislikes the shape and color of adult labia is just eww.

I understand that there are extreme cases. I saw a thing about a girl who couldn't wear pants because her labia were so long they got all folded up. But that aside, the more real estate someone has down there the more feel good spots they have. This goes back to a very basic problem we have culturally, where we teach girls their first consideration wrt sex should be "What do guys think about how I look?" instead of "What do I think about how I feel?" And then we wonder why people keep having bad hetero sex experiences.

I cannot believe any woman who masturbates would consider labiaplasty unless it was truly a medical concern. I mean I think I have an entirely unremarkable pubic area, but I cannot imagine responding to male criticism of its appearance with anything other than "Well ok, for that I'm not going to let you watch me play with it."

It nagged him, in particular, that none of the girls he’d known so far had given him a sense of unalloyed triumph.

I had to peek at some of the pictures, and I do get why some women with excessive real estate down there would want to get some reduction. In some of the pictured cases they were dealing with something akin to a penis in size and positioning. It can't be comfortable and as much as we'd all ideally want to be comfortable with our natural bodies, I do understand why those extreme cases would make someone feel self conscious. In some of the pics it just looked like normal aging, being a little saggy, nip 'n tuck, that sort of thing. That I don't really get, but it's not my $$ or recovery!

About women shaving their nethers, though - I'm on a masters swim team and most of us are in our 30's and 40's, a few 50's as well, and in the locker room environment I can't help but notice that Brazilian waxing is pretty popular in that age group. And so is natural body aging. I don't think I would ever otherwise have had cause to notice that women's bodies do age "down there" and when completely waxed, the signs of aging are really apparent. I had my own "grab a mirror and look closely" moment after first noticing that in the locker room one day - I had to check to see if I'd lost my youth in that area as well. I had, of course, but it's just much harder to tell if you're not completely waxed, which I'm not.

But it made me think as I was reading this thread that with the popularity of waxing oneself bald down there, and the revelation of the less than youthful profile exposed by that, that an increase in those having surgery to modify what's been exposed does seem to make sense.

Great Post LadyK, I have raised my daughter to think the proper way, and as a result at age 14, she could give 2 shits about dressing like everyone else, and being popular.

I would hope as an adult not only would she have the response you recommend, but also give him a good hard kick in the jimmies.

AS afar as the shaving thing goes, personally I prefer to be smooth, I started when I was having lots of gyno issues, and have pretty much stuck with it for more than 15 years. I like being clean, and keeping the fur away (I am of french/german descent so I'm fairly furry) helps with that. It's not about how it looks for me. Although there are some benefits when it comes to bedroom time.

I'm old and I find SI so educational! (I didn't even know Brazilians weren't always people until I joined this place.)

I know about stress incontinence and about the hair from all over the body migrating to one's face with age. But I confess that I didn't know about the visible aging of the parts of one's rude bits that one can see without gymnastic contortions and a hand mirror - other than the aforementioned negative-Tressy effect. Could someone be kind enough to explain, please, what happens? (Or in my case, I presume, has already happened! Without my realizing it. I guess I've been too busy looking at my wrinkled face, bemoaning my suddenly-creaking joints, and so on.)

Seriously. Please tell me more. For example, I wasn't sure what even the 'Barbie' post really meant.
