This is what they do to make me want to never go to our church again.

Don't ever talk to my mother about church; she still hasn't recovered from trying to drag us in the front door as we cried, "We want to go to the bar with daddy!"
You are important and you matter. Your feelings matter. Your voice matters. Your story matters. Your life matters. Always.

"We want to go to the bar with daddy!"
No one changes unless they want to. Not if you beg them. Not if you shame them. Not if you use reason, emotion, or tough love. There is only one thing that makes someone change: their own realization that they need to.

Each of us kids (me, my brother, and my sister) did a pew run... or maybe it would be crawl... when we were between 2 and 4. This is where the kid waits patiently until mom is very intent on the sermon or whatever is going on up front, and then makes a break for it crawling under the pews (and through the legs) to head for the front of the church.
My sister was the winner though. Mom evidently caught both my brother and me on each of our runs by the time we had only gone one or two pews. My sis made it under between 6 and 8 and was up front hanging with the preacher when mom had to run up and grab her. As I recall, she was starting to dance a little by the time mom got there....

BTW - sign of a cool church - everyone joins the kid in a rousing chorus of "All my Exes".

That is funny and cute. Reminds me of my friend whose then 3 year old DD had to get up and sing for the congregation. The kid was nervous and pulled her dress over her head halfway through...with NO underwear on. Her mom was sputtering about the underwear when DD said "Mom, I peed them. I had to take them off". We all were laying on the floor laughing.

@ Sad
My sister's DD4 outdid all the embarassing moments here, I think.
The pastor called all the children up to the altar. When DD4 got to the front she pulled up her dress and started pulling up her tights while loudly and clearly proclaiming "These fucking tights won't stay up!"
