OMG, after spending ages reno-ing my downstairs bathroom, in a split second decision I am now knee deep in reno-ing my kitchen. I'd been planning to do it eventually, but my dishwasher made the decision for me. Friday it went on the fritz. Saturday I went to the appliance store and bought fridge, stove, microwave and dishwasher. The new dishwasher was installed last night. I'm in love. It's so quiet and energy-efficient, the top rack adjusts height-wise, and it looks sleek and sexy.

Now that the dishwasher is in, I can't wait to get rid of my old stove. The new one is gas--four burners plus a grill, TWO ovens (oh my gosh, two OVENS! My daughter and I can now bake twice as many cookies this Christmas!) with the possibility of ovens being gas or electric, radiant or convection. It's this freaking stove that has me wondering, when did I get to be so attached to material things? Holy cow! I've never had any material attachments except for my collection of paintings, which are more food for the soul. I think it all started with that amazing toilet. It just sucked me right in!

Think of this as an improvement to your way of life - baking cookies with your daughter is an experience (and a great one!), not a reliance on material things.

Oh Amazonia, justify much? Yeah, that's how it is. I got all those appliances so we can make more cookies.

Oh Lord, FaithFool, people already call me "Martha" because of the cooking and baking. Am I now one step closer to it being true?

That's one powerful toilet. Maybe next time, don't stand in the bowl when you pull the lever.

The great news is because this time of year isn't so busy, the manufacturers' offers were phenomenal. Every thing I bought was discounted--the stove by almost $1,000. I hadn't given timing any thought, but apparently someone was looking out for me.

Ama, I am painting my walls red and yellow, my two favourite colours and installing a grayish cork floor. The appliances are all stainless. It should look wild, especially when I hang some of my craziest art in there!

jrc, ya can't have it! But you can have one like it:

It probably costs even less in the States.

Maybe a painting like this (now living with my XSO) on the vacant yellow wall. Right now there's an autogtaphed photo of Guy LaFleur.
