So I have to move by the end of Oct. and there is a really cute place but it's smaller than my current place. Is this a huge difference? Would I have to really get rid of a lot of things to do this? Tempted but scared of not being able to fit. New place is much closer to work and the parking spot is included. Here I have a rough commute home in bumper to bumper grid lock for about an 1 hr. and have to pay to park here and also pay to park at work. What do you think?

I live in 700 now. It's plenty of space for just me, IMO.
I would wonder if you're losing a particular room? Going from two bed to one? Losing a designated dining room space? I mean, you are cutting out 1/4 th the space in your house! Look too at the size of specific rooms - my bedroom quite literally just has space for a bed and a dresser and side table. There wouldn't be room for a comfy chair or extra wardrobe or vanity with bench.

I think layout is going to have a big impact on this.

Shoot, my whole HOUSE is only 1100 sq. ft.; has 2 BR, LR, DR (quite large), kit, laundry room, foyer, and 2 extra rooms that were the original front porch. And, I only have TWO closets, because it's a very old house. All my furniture is antique and large, but it fits nicely. As long as you're not looking to put a lot of extraneous stuff in, there should be plenty of room. Oh, and I have five cats as well, and they're not crowded at all.
Be careful what you wish for the most - you may get it.

I think the payoff in terms of the parking spot and reduced commute would MORE than make up for any temporary adjustment due to size.

I went from an 1100 sq ft apt to 675. (2 BR - 1 BR) and I agree the layout makes a difference--but how much stuff you have does, too. Before I moved here I took a long look at my belongings to determine what was really necessary and what I could get along without. I got rid of the excess and haven't missed it one bit.
And I agree 100%--savings on parking and commuting is WELL worth it.

Well, my current place does have a dining room so I wonder if that would be the same as taking off 200 sq. ft.? I hope to see it Sat. if it's not taken yet. Maybe I'll bring my current floorplan with me to compare. I didn't see one for the other place online.

300 square feet is roughly a 15 by 20 room, so it is quite a bit, but layout is huge.
First house I bought was only 720 SF, but the layout was unique in that there was no space wasted on hallways. As far as actual usable living space we found it compared quite well to much larger homes in the neighborhood.
Your mileage may vary... in accordance with the prophecy.
Do not back up. Severe tire damage.
