So... My wife is due to give birth on 3rd november but last night he decided to make a break for it...
After hours in the hospital the doctor managed to persuade him to stay cooking a little longer.
The Mrs is still in hosp but she's OK- I googled and really wish I hadn't

I'm sending you calming thoughts

Thank you very much.
I've been trying to keep busy but I couldn't resist googling and it freaked me right out.
They were great last night- a consultant a doc and 2 midwives rushing around, calmed the Mrs down and put a halt on things.
I think it's awful because it's one of those things that's completely out of my hands- literally nothing I could do except stand there like a lemon.

((((idiot, wife and baby))))
Sending it all your way!!
It seems like your wife is about 30 weeks now, which is still worryingly early but hopefully will cook the little one at least a little longer.
My first baby was a 32 weeker, water broke just before 32 weeks and they kept him in a few days. After he was born, he spent a month in neonatal intensive care, but he finally came out ok. (He's 19 now and getting ready to start uni in the uk).
While I was in the hospital waiting for him to be born, the doc came in and explained all of the things that could be wrong/not developed in him yet and what they would do about it if those things happened. Well let me tell you - I DID NOT NEED TO HEAR ALL OF THAT!!!!! So I understand why you want to mind-bleach out your googlings.
I also had preterm labor with DS2, but they kept him in till 38 weeks with drugs.
With DS3 I was having contractions at 26 weeks. Scary!! Then was in labor at 29 weeks. Scarier!! With a bunch of drugs and complete bedrest they kept him in till almost 36 weeks and he came home with me the next day.
It's all so very frightening. I hope you have friend/family support where you are, you will all need it.
Keeping fingers, toes and everything crossed that your little one stays inside at least until the lungs are developed.

My neighbor gave birth to a 30 weeker. She made the choice to start school a year later. I see no difference in him vs the rest of the kids his age (DD4 is the same age). He is on track for valedictorian when he graduates this year. 4 year varsity basketball player. I think she made the right decision starting him a year late-he's thrived.
Sending prayers your wee one has a bit more patience to finish baking.
Hugs for you, so hard to feel helpless.

I've been trying to find positive stories but i must keep skipping them- seeing these examples have defo made me feel better!
They said he's alright, there's nothing wrong that he must just be impatient and the wife's body will just go with the flow.
Thank you everyone- I'm honestly starting to chill a bit. My SIL and MIL are at the hosp now and say the wife is feeling a lot better.

I worked in with NICU doctors and nurses for a year and I was amazed at all they can do for premies now a days.
I would stop googling...it's going to drive you nuts.

At least for the first few years, preemies are developmentally more like babies born when the preemie was supposed to be born (rather than when the preemie is actually born), at least that's what the docs told us to expect in terms of milestones, etc.
I hope you can find more 'success' stories, I KNOW there are lots of them out there.
Glad things look to be going a bit better now.

I'll add a success story for you. My niece was delivered by an emergency C-section 10 weeks early back in 1986. She weighed less than 2 lbs, and her father's wedding ring fit over her foot and hung loosely around her leg. She was tiny.
Even without benefit of the medical advances they've made in the 27 years since then, she not only survived, she thrived. Perfectly healthy, no issues at all, graduated from HS with multiple scholarships, completed college, has been involved at a national level with multiple charities, has a lovely family complete with two darling boys... she has a wonderful, healthy life.
Keep focusing on the positive.

Awesome!
Another happy preemie story, just in case...
My manager at work's daughter gave birth early to a 2 lb. 3 oz. baby. She's doing well and is up to over 3 lbs. and the baby is set to come home any day.
DS, you are forever in my heart. Thank you for sharing your beautiful spirit with me. I will always try to live by the example you have set. I love you and miss you every day and am sorry you had to go so soon, it just doesn't seem fair.
