I'm loving the positive outcomes- chances are he'll come early but hopefully not yet!

I also don't like being here (home) with the wife in hosp- feels weird. Even though my little vulture.. I mean, daughter, has hopped in my bed

My oldest was born at 29 weeks, my middle at 36 weeks and my youngest at 34, my 29 weeker, had a few years of issues, but today is a happy very healthy intelligent incredibly beautiful almost 9 year old, ( she had asthma and bronchopulmonary dysplasia, had two heart murmurs, and retinopathy of prematurity, dealt with jaundice, feeding issues and was on o2 until she was 6 months old) She spent 56 days in a level 3 NICU in St Louis in one of the top 5 Children's Hospitals in the country. Today she is only dealing with occasional asthma flare ups her BPD has been downgraded to mild and she will outgrow it as she continues to grow healthy new lung tissue. Her heart and eye problems are completely gone. She is obsessed with Greek Mythology, and has truly been fine since she was 2. I can barely keep up with her. My 36 weeker, was jaundiced, but came home after 5 days in the hospital(one day extra) She is witty, and sensitive, loving and just all around incredible, My 34 weeker, is turning 2 in November. She was jaundiced had weight/feeding issues and stayed 9 days in the hospital's special care nursery ( a step down from NICU) She is a little imp, always smiling and being so silly, She just learned to say Puppy and Kitty, and runs around after our cat, screaming TITTY! TITTY!

I know the stuff with my 29 weeker is scary, but let me say this. The doctors and hospitals, and nurses have the science, treatments and medicines to help them survive and THRIVE, in the last 9 years since my oldest was born, even more changes have been made, your little one is going to be ok, even if they get an earlier start. With our three, we looked at it as God giving us bonus time with them, and giving us so much more to be thankful for and to celebrate, since we get to celebrate their birthdays, their coming home days, and major milestones too :) Feel free to pm me any time, with regards to preemie stuff, we have done it all :)

I originally joined SI as a way to help my best friends find ways of coping with infidelity, but now infidelity has touched my family much closer to home.

My 25 year old daughter weighed 1 kilo at birth at 29 weeks. She is happy, beautiful, healthy and wonderfully maddening young person. As a previous poster mentioned, she had a few problems in the first 4-5 years, but nothing that has stayed with her at all. Good luck!

It's the thought of having issues that's scary. My other 2 were both quick- out the same day. Perfectly healthy.

Anyway the wife is home now

Now it's your turn to pamper her Idiot. Make sure she keeps stress low, and life relaxed.

Some of the meds to slow/stop them from coming early have a nasty side effect of making the momma extremely anxious.

I also have premie stories, my eldest niece came at 35 weeks, and was just fine, other than being extremely colicy. She is now starting her Sophomore year of college, and is one of the smartest people i have ever known, in an honors premed course at a big U.

My boy came at 36 weeks, he ran out of room. He too was fusy colicky baby, but is super bright. No real issues with development other than speech delay, and late walker (which is a blessing really).

My friends DIL had her baby last summer at 24 weeks. While scary the little guy did great, was on a vent for a few days, but did just fine, now 15 months old, and right on track with everything. It is amazing how well they do.

I really think that some womens bodies just are made to have those babies sooner. My mom had both of us early, my sister had her two early, I had my two early, and no problems. I'm sure there is some sort of genetic tendency to just get the cooking done faster, like some of us have a convect uterus instead of a radiant one.

Anyway, (((to you and yours))))

and wishing for a few more weeks of quiet.

Technology is so advanced now a days to deal with premature situations. In 1973 when I was born it wasn't near what it is.

I was born nearly 3 months premature. Most of my systems were very underdeveloped. I was told Icould be held in one hand. I was given very little to no chance to survive. I had spinal meningitis also. I was in the in the hospital on my first birthday.

The Dr's figured I may never walk, talk, or mature properly.

Thankfully I beat all the odds and I believe then some. I am as normal as anyone I know. No signs of any long term effects.

I hope that does not scare you but try to put your mind at rest that even if the baby is early that all can still be just fine.

Hello - Thought I'd let you all know he was born on 5 Sept and is actually doing very well

He's still on oxygen in an incubator in the Special Care Baby Unit but it's mainly just monitoring him- he's all wired up but they're all on him not in him which I always think is a good sign!!

Congrats!!!!

Happy to hear all is well. The giant feet, sound like my boy, he came early because he just ran out of room.

He was almost a full 4 weeks early, and he was 22" long. He is 16 now and still long and lean at 6'2", and 165 pounds.

Congrats, i85! Our youngest weighed 4 lbs. 5 ounces when born, and went down to a little under 4 lbs. before he started eating well. He was born at about 32 weeks. Perfect! The only issue we had was a little jaundice, easily remedied.

He slept all the time. I had to wake him to feed him. Barely ever cried. He was the perfect baby.

DS's feet didn't seem huge to me, but his head sure did. We thought he was absolutely beautiful and the whole family fell madly, crazy in love with him. However, the truth was, he actually looked like a very small, very wise old man.
